1. Wolf Quad Barracks - Commander's Quarters

Just coming back in from her shower, Bianca tossed her towel at the cleaner and stretched. Her long blonde, slightly wavy hair was loose, and she sat down in her underclothing to brush it out. The last few days had been pretty uneventful, just lecture after boring lecture. Bianca liked command, liked the way people listened to her, did what she told them. What she didn't like was people telling her how to command, and that's all these classes seemed to be aimed at.

Bianca was a good commander. Not great, but not awful, somewhere right in the middle, and that's the way she liked it. The top commanders were under too much pressure, and the bad ones tended to ice, lose their positions in disgrace. Where she was kept her safe, and she liked that best of all.

But the six month mark was here, and she'd lost four of her soldiers to graduation. The new recruits might drag her down. She had to make sure that wasn't going to happen.

Her brushing complete, she brushed it back, making two long slender braids to either side of her face and pinning them together to keep the rest of her hair back. Her amber eyes regarded her from the mirror, and she smiled at her reflection. She was proud of the way she looked, the way the boys in her Quad stopped talking when she walked by. Now it was time to see if her new ones were worthy, or if she had to trade them.

Pulling on her uniform, not bothering with the undershirt, she zipped it up just just above her collarbone and left her quarters, heading into the Wolf Quad.

Palming the door open, Bianca stepped in and to the side, allowing Jor to pass before she let the door shut. A quick, silent tap locked it as well, and when he turned around, she was lounging on her bunk with her desk, laying on her stomach with her feet crossed in the air behind her. She shifted a little under his gaze, watched as he avoided looking at her face to keep from staring into the top of her uniform.

"Why don't you have a seat, hmm? This won't take very long," said Bianca, gesturing to the solitary chair as she began typing his entry into her desk file. Not long at all, she thought as she saw how tense he was, how on edge, when she'd only been with him five minutes.

His two years with Wick had been nothing like this first five minutes with his new commander. Bianca slid into her bunk, and Jor had to keep his gaze trained on the wall above her, her uniform collar falling open as she lounged on the bed. He could hear his teeth grinding together as he remained standing at attention, boots planted solidly and his fingernails digging into his palm as he held his hands behind his back.

"No thank you, Commander, I prefer to stand." Jor's eyes flashed forest as he risked a glance down at her face, meeting her amber eyes for a brief moment. Then he flicked his gaze back toward the wall and waited.

Bianca frowned a little. "I'm a good commander, Jor. I do try to be polite, and I don't like to have my hospitality refused. Do I have to order you? Have a seat."

She smiled again, disarmingly, and rolled onto her side to face him, head propped up on one arm, the fingers of the other hand drumming absently on her thigh. "I have a few questions for you, if you don't mind. What was your last position? In your last army," she added with the tiniest of grins.

With a murmured "yessir" Jor slipped into the chair with tense grace, resting his arm along the seatback as he blinked slowly, watching her with muted interest. After Dante, Bianca certainly was a... change, to say the least. Nothing like his former commander, especially after the incident with Nathan... she'd been as cold as ice, and Bianca was nowhere near that.

Withdrawn politeness tinged his husky voice as he responded to her questions. "I was a soldier, sir. Before that, a toon leader." Nothing elaborate, just the plain truth. He didn't have to mention his demotion from Panther. If she wanted to know it that badly, she could search through all his disciplinary files. With her, he'd give as little as possible, or risk his control. Wick... the silent voice reminded him.

She nodded, her eyes intent on his face rather than her terminal. "And did you enjoy your final position there, Jor? Or do you want to be a commander like the rest of us?" She sat up slowly, her long blonde hair falling neatly over one shoulder, leaving the other with only the loose uniform material to cover it. "I guess what I'm asking you is, do you think you'll have trouble...taking orders?"

She ran her eyes over him again, more thoroughly. His strong hands were clenched, but she knew the look in his deep green eyes well. She'd seen it hundreds of times from the other boys at the station...but he was still maintaining that distance. Fascinating. She wondered how many more minutes he'd be able to keep up the facade. His olive-skinned cheeks were a little pink. Was he blushing?

Jor was rather taken aback by her evident interest, the way her gaze slid over him causing the little gleam in his eyes to turn serpentine green again. He never had had to deal with someone like this before; with Wick, they were always in a constant limbo between fighting and repenting. Losing control with this one would be an entirely different story. The way Wick had rebuffed his advances earlier gnawed on the edge of his thoughts as he kept his eyes locked passively with Bianca's.

"I am not insubordinate, sir. I am a soldier, and I will follow orders." He wasn't quite sure what she wanted from him, but the lithe way she twisted to sit up left him with little doubt as to her intentions. An answering flame ignited within him. No one controlled him, even his spark. If that's what this commander of his wanted, then she'd found herself a challenge.

She smiled at the new glint in his eye. "Then we shouldn't have any problems, soldier. I think we'll get along just fine." Another dark lock fell across his forehead, and she rose gracefully, undulating as she crossed the small room and delicately slid his hair back into place before drawing her fingertip down his cheek to rest under his chin, tilting his head upwards slightly. "What do you think, Jor?" she asked, her voice silkier, deeper, more intimate as she looked down into his eyes.

Jor's pulse quickened unwilling as her fingertips traced along his cheek, and she tilted his chin up toward her, almost purring as she spoke. He averted his gaze from hers, pulling his head away from her touch before he could think of what her reaction might be. With controlled calm, he replied, his voice almost growling in response to her tone.

"Just fine," he repeated slowly, watching her warily from the corner of his eyes. She had paused at his withdrawal, and he almost smirked, both of them silent for a moment, calculating. "Is there anything else you need, sir?" Jor asked politely, still staring at the wall.

Bianca smiled when he said that.

This one needed to stew for a bit first, though.

"That's all, Jor. For now," she added as an afterthought. Let him think that one over tonight while he slept alone in his cell. He would be begging at her door within the week.

She didn't move from her spot, practically in front of his chair, not quite close enough for crowding, but when he stood he'd be only an inch or two away from her.

She smiled, and his eyes narrowed slightly at her as he swiftly pushed himself to standing. She was right there beside him, only a few inches away, and he paused. Then, angry at himself, Jor shoved with light roughness past her, his shoulder knocking her out of his way as he stalked from her quarters, intent on seeking solitude somewhere, anywhere.

Wait. She hadn't said whether or not he could leave the quad barracks.

Turning around to face her, he set his face in quiet obedience as he lowered his voice. "Excuse me, commander, may I leave the barracks?" He needed to see Wick now, more than ever, to reinforce his control and give him some semblance of strength against this amber-eyed commander of his.

She had him there, but with years of practice, Jor replied in his own silky tone of false sincerity. "Yes sir, I was, but there is some... business I forgot to attend to. Excuse me." Let her ponder over that. She wasn't the only one with something on her mind. Jor allowed a flicker of a smirk to play across his lips as he nodded curtly, then slid gracefully from her room, quickening his stride as he sought to find Wick.

Bianca sat slowly in her chair after she left, smiling to herself. Her first day with the new fish and she'd already found her next plaything...so handsome, so barely controlled. She couldn't wait to see the look on his face when he came to her quarters in the middle of the night, requesting an audience.

Well-satisfied, she picked up her desk and started making notes.

With Jor following docilely behind her, she entered her quarters, drawing him in behind and locking the door with a silent tap. She led him gently to the single chair and made him sit with gentle pressure. Brushing his ears with her fingertips, she placed her hands on his shoulders and began to massage the tense muscles there. Her first impression of his musculature had been deliciously accurate.

Before he knew it, he was seated with Bianca behind him, her hands massaging his back. Part of him started to relax, enjoying her gentle attention. Then that sense of his impending loss of control woke Jor from his little reverie, and shrugging her away, he pushed himself up from the chair, turning to look at her. His dark jade eyes glazed over as he stared into her amber ones, and Jor clenched his jaw as he flicked his gaze over her.

"Scuse me, Commander." He wasn't quite sure what he was doing as he stood frozen. Leave, you idiot, his mind tried to reason. Before you do something stupid and risk losing Wick altogether. But for some reason he couldn't move, just watched her, half-defiant as he folded his arms across his chest and waited for something he didn't quite understand.

Bianca blinked as Jor pulled away, stood up, but didn't leave.

She melted her surprise nicely into gentle hurt, and then again into understanding. Long standing practice at managing difficult boys had given her a special touch, and she applied it now as she laid her fingertips gently on one of his crossed arms.

"Jor...I'm sorry. I was only trying to help." After the necessary pause, she asked, gently, "Would you like to talk about it?" Inside she smirked. He was in the trap. She wouldn't let him escape.

Bianca's fingers, tracing over his arm, ran across his scar. Jor shivered, pulling away as he backed up. Only Wick knew that was there, knew what had happened back in Maui when he was younger. He'd kept it carefully hidden from everyone else, for a reason he wasn't quite sure of. But he did know that he wasn't about to let this commander of his discover his secret.

"No, uh, I'd rather not. Excuse me, Commander." Turning around, he placed his hand on the palm-lock, trying to open it. But the door remained closed, and he slapped the lock again, harder this time with frustration. He wanted out. He needed out before he did something he was only half-sure he didn't want to do.

Bianca painted a little hurt into her eyes, but just a little. "Jor," she said quietly. "You can leave if you really want to...but as your commander, I'm going to tell you that I think you need someone to help you right now..." She crossed to him, hugging him from behind, her hands low on his stomach. "...and as your friend, I want you to know that I'm here for you."

He woke up in the quad barracks this morning with Wick's hand resting on his stomach as she slept beside him. Bianca's hands held him against her in the exact same place.

Too overwhelming.

Jor turned in her arms until he was facing her, looking down into her hurt amber eyes. She was so sweet... and whether it was real, or just a ploy, was lost on him. His rejected heart needed solace. It seemed as if he'd found it.

As with all things, Jor felt his angry fire start to burn. He wanted Bianca right now... so leaning down, he kissed her suddenly, roughly, yanking her towards him with a hard hand clenched into the small of her back. She went almost limp in his arms as he moved a hand up her side, virtually passive to his kisses. Confused, his lips became more demanding, more bruising, but she did nothing to fight back. Bianca's passivity only reminded Jor painfully of Wick. There was nothing here, no spirit, no fire, not like with his spark. What in the hell was he doing?

Grabbing Bianca's hand suddenly, Jor pressed it to the palmlock, and the door slid open. With a husky growl of disgust, he shoved her away from him lightly and stalked from her room, leaving the barracks in search of Wick.

It took a moment for things to sink in as she stood there in her quarters. The sound of the door closing behind him broke her trance and she blinked.

Jor was gone.

She fretted. He had just been getting interesting. His kiss had been rough, full of the longing she'd seen in his eyes...and then his whole energy just REVERSED, and he ran away. What could have turned him off like that? Was he still thinking about the little pale brat she'd seen in the Game Arena?

Shrugging it off, she forced a smile anyway. He'd be back. Until then, she could afford to be a little chilly, until he apologized. Making up was half the fun.

Bianca was furious.

The administration was screwing with her army, and she was tired of it.

She could understand getting in recruits to replace her graduates...but then they transferred out an ENTIRE CELL from her Quad and sent in four brats from the Jayde military school to replace them, all fresh out of BattleSchool and completely untrained in the simulator.

What the hell were they trying to pull? They didn't even spread them out among the cells, just dumped them all in together. She hated the way the groundschool kids got grouped together like that. Their unity issues made them so much harder to deal with than normal soldiers. She'd never had to before; now it looked like she was going to get the full course of instruction.

She glowered and looked over their files. Perfect. Disciplinary record a mile long. One of them was even under Charybdis review for a while, but he was pardoned and sent back up. Just great.

She zipped up her collar and stormed out of her quarters and towards the rest of the Cells, palming open Cell A and stepping inside without pausing.

Bianca fastened the last of the sashes to her uniform and smiled at herself in the mirror with a pleased expression. The dress uniform became her as nicely as the less formal combination she wore from day to day, the commander's bars black silk sewn into the more expensive fabric, the wolf below it embroidered in much greater detail. Wolf was going to be the best, and the Jayde menace wasn't going to stop her.

They'd been surprisingly silent the last few days. Bianca wasn't too concerned. Sometimes it was hard for boys to surrender their right to command to her. They would either come to terms with it, or she'd have some of her vets help them along a little. Bianca was the only woman in her quad because she was the only one worth having, and she liked working with the older soldiers, because they already knew the score.

In this pack of wild dogs, Bianca was undisputed head bitch.

She grinned at herself in the mirror. Older soldiers...that reminded her of Seth, and she smoothed her hair with a hand as she thought over their brief time together. What a promising boy. All the uncertainty of a green and all the capability of a veteran...though she had to admit, he hadn't seemed as interested as she would have expected. She looked her reflection over, searching for anything that might have turned him off, and smiled when she found nothing. Maybe he was just being difficult. Bianca loved a good challenge.
