A softly spoken thanks, a weak smile, and he was inside the barracks. His bunk was in Cell C, and after a few moments of searching he found it, unoccupied.

Bottom bunk - excellent; he dropped his duffle at the foot of the bed and sat down heavily on the mattress. Now what? Max lay back and pondered. He let his thoughts wander freely, though they mostly centered on Command School, and how he was going to adapt to his new environment. He remembered the violence of Battle School, and his ineffectiveness when it came to actual, physical combat. As far as that went, he knew that any fight he got in, he would lose. Maximillian had his ways of revenge, of course, but in the end, he preferred not to get his faced stomped first. Avoid fights, then.

Socially, well, he didn't really care for people all that much, at least, not on a personal level - his life's experiences had made him bitter, cynical, and morbid. He enjoyed public speaking and whatnot; it made him a passable leader, and that was what had primarily got him through Battle School, despite his poor combat abilities. When he got up to give a speech, or motivate a 'toon, he was no longer "Max" or "Graevs" but Maximillian Graevs, Leader. The ability to sway a group of people, to make his will that of those around him, that was what he lived for. Outside that context, though, he was quiet and reserved, preferring to remain out of the spotlight and beneath the radars of others.

Which was not easy. He made mistakes, and mistakes made him enemies. As he got older, he learned to stay in the wings as much as possible and let others take the glory, but there were times when he had to make himself felt, when he knew that his way was the correct way. So he had made enemies. Big, fit enemies. The type of people who enjoyed inflicting pain on others. But he had learned to fight back, in his own way. Max could read people well, could find their insecurities and mental weaknesses. From there he always knew how to act.

But here at Command School, he hoped that he wouldn't have to. He would stay low, wouldn't speak up, wouldn't insult, impress or challenge anybody (he hoped). Max was here for the training and knowledge only - he had no ambitions for the IF or combat or anything else like that.

For he knew; his life had purpose. Maximillian Graevs had a destiny, and he couldn't let anything get in its way.

He sat up with a start. How long had he been lying there daydreaming? Too long, Max decided - he hadn't even reported to his new commander yet. Time to make amends. Hastily, he stowed his gear and left to search out the commander's quarters.
