Not a bad day, so far. He'd slept that deep dreamless sleep of comfort after Wick had left, satisfied with his own plans and with their renewed love, and classes for the day were over. He was just heading back towards the barracks, to grab Wick before heading out to lunch, when a half-way familiar voice called his name from behind and he turned to see Pallas.

Pallas? What could she possibly want?

He'd never really had much to do with her. She was Wick's toon leader, not his, and had been graduated the same time as Dante had. It wasn't as if they'd ever known eachother in Fox Army, not really. She was... reserved, withdrawn, like Dante. And he didn't have any friends or companions for that last year except for Wick.

So although he was slightly confused as to why she might want to talk to him, he quickly buried that and managed a curt nod at the girl as he paused in the corridor and surveyed her calmly. "Pallas."

She studied Jor's injuries with detachment. The boy's eye was swollen, his cheek bruised. Whoever it was hadn't been kind, and Dante was right. Wick couldn't have done this much damage. During their time at BattleSchool together in Fox, she'd seen Jor turn up with all manner of bruises and the occasional cuts, but he never complained to Swede. Wick often matched, and was usually worse off, but she remained equally silent. Pallas had a fairly clear idea of what their relationship consisted of. She considered being circumspect, but put that aside in favor of a more direct approach. "Rough first week?" she asked as she matched his stride as he began to walk again.

Even more confusing now that she continued to talk to him, following him through the corridors on his way to Hydra Barracks. He wasn't going to very well bring Pallas to question Wick too, if that's what she was planning, and so he slowed his pace, stalking beside her. She had looked over his injuries as if expecting them, and his green eyes narrowed slightly as he watched her closely, intently, before answering. "I suppose you could say that."

What more she wanted from him, he wasn't quite sure, and thus remained quiet as she walked alongside him. He was far from unfocused, however, watching the hallways for any sign of Nathan, any sign of anything out of the ordinary. He hadn't exactly enjoyed his fight with the other man, and didn't want to repeat it unless he was sure to win. Sure to win with Wick by his side. Jor contemplated for a moment asking Pallas just what she wanted, but decided against it, knowing her penchant for being direct rather than skirting around the issue. And so he waited, still watching her and the corridors warily, and tried to figure out why she, of all people, was talking to him.

She watched him scanning the corridor as his pace slowed. Looking for Nathan? Or had it been someone else? "I heard what happened to Wick." She paused for a moment, and then added, "I'm sorry." Her tone was a little softer at the last, but only a little. The injuries Wick was rumored to have suffered were above and beyond any petty grievances Nathan might have held against her for attacking Dante so long ago. Wick hadn't even done much damage. Perhaps Nathan had wounded her only to anger Jor.

"How did you get those bruises?"

It took a long moment before realization began to set in. Her tone had almost been one of concern, her "I'm sorry," something he wasn't quite expecting, until he finally realized just what was going on. He'd grown so used to everyone knowing of their scheme; of the letter, the ensuing battle, all the tricks and plots they'd played to get Nathan iced; that he was bewildered for a moment to recognize the sincerity in Pallas's words. She didn't know. She probably still thought Nathan was guilty for all that, the bad guy. Unbelieveable. Unwilling to disturb her naivety, Jor smiled tightly, a grin that faded almost before it began, and never once touched his eyes.

"Same source. And she'll be fine." Thoughts of Wick spurned him to quicken his pace once more. No matter how much she insisted she was fine, could watch herself, he knew better and always had a little flicker of protectiveness in him for her. Pallas hastened her steps too, still following, and he eyed her calmly out of the corner of his eye as he walked. "Is there something you need, Pallas?"

"Yes. I need to know why you think he attacked you in the Engineering Bay. A few of us think he may be intending to harm Dante." She studied him, his light green eyes still shifting around the corridor and settling on her only peripherally as he forced her to keep his pace.

Finally. They finally approached Hydra barracks, and Jor paused at the doorway, his hand centimeters from the palmlock as he gave Pallas one last glance, tilting his head to eye her coldly. "Dante's situation with Mode is none of my business. I protect myself and spark. That's it. If you all are that worried, you should be there watching her now. Good day, Pallas."

He opened the door and stalked inside, quickly seeking out Wick's cell, leaving Pallas to stand alone in the corridor.

Wick was rudely awakened by a painful prod in her side, and she grabbed at the offending object clumsily as she sat up, still muddled with a confusion of too little sleep. There was a scrambling, scuffling sound, and her mind clicked into overdrive as she tried to shake off the fog and focus on the noises of fighting around her.

Hands gripped her arms, pulled her off the bunk and onto her feet. The hand on her right arm was painful, but the left felt...nothing.

This fresh reminder of her injury brought her more awake, and she struggled, but only slightly. The MPs didn't react at all, just dragged her to the doorway. Peripherally, she saw Sergei, his eyes wide as he huddled in his bunk, and Rabin, his face a mask of rage as the scattered MPs began to beat him.

This was visible only in small slices before she was to the door. Gloved fingertips lifted her chin almost gently and she looked up into a face nearly invisible in the ambient darkness, but the eyes caught the light and glimmered, a cold blue-grey that reminded her of NO3 flame and smoke.

"No more wasting time. We have much to discuss." His voice was smooth and free of all but the slightest hint of an accent. His tone was almost mild, and that scared her despite herself. She could hear the MPs beating Rabin as the spectre disappeared and she was dragged away. Anyone who took these proceedings with such equanamity deserved her fear.

She came fully awake as they dragged her down the hallway, and began to struggle in earnest as her brain threw off the last of the sleepy haze. MPs in riot gear. RIOT gear, just to collect her in the middle of the night? What for? None of this made any sense. She hadn't done anything worthy of arrest since her arrival. Her logic skipped its track and she wrenched at the MP holding her left arm and was rewarded with a faint feeling of pressure in the muscle tissue beneath the numb skin.

The MP almost let her go, and then the world dipped sharply as someone cuffed her efficiently from behind. Her head lolled back and she caught a brief glimpse of the same face, those burning eyes remarkably in tune with the little amused smile on his lips. Wick's fire sprang to take over and she wrenched her arm free of the MP on her left and stumbled forward and away, bringing her left hand around in a tight arc to contact the wrist of the man who held her right, but he was too well padded for her to reach the necessary nerve complex.

She caught a jerk of movement that might have been a nod from her captor and the world went white for a moment as the unique crackling sound of the stun baton echoed in her head. When her vision cleared, her muscles weren't responding properly, and her body sagged as the MPs carried her away.

Rabin explained as the went.

"There were five of them. Four MPs in motherfucking riot gear and one bitchass in a fancy uniform. They took Wick without a goddman word."

The blood wasn't running from his mouth quite so badly, but his chin was covered with blood. Rabin didn't bother to wipe it away.

He could feel the green's rage growing. That was good. Rabin knew his own limits; he hadn't been able to take on those MPs in the cell, and that was when he was still uninjured. He needed help, and this veg was the first one he could think of. It was a damn sure thing those weepy little bitches Wes and Sergei weren't going to be any help.

Rabin's eyes burned. No one fucked with Hydra.

That he didn't quite fully understand what had happened angered Jor just as much as the thought of Wick being taken, and judging from Rabin's injuries, what they might do to her could be even worse. He didn't know who the fuck they were. He didn't know why the fuck they wanted her. But no one, not riot-ready MPs or some cold-blooded official, fucked with what was his.

And he was going to get his spark back.

Rabin was still bleeding from the mouth, but his stoicism prompted a mirthless grin from Jor. The two exchanged one long, very knowing, very enraged glance before they continued to stalk silently through the corridors. Oh God, how he was angry. No, angry wasn't quite the word; rage didn't seem to fit either. It was beyond that. Beyond anything he'd felt; more so than any of his fights in Battle School, more so than when he beat that accursed Angel back in Fox, more so than when he'd seen Wick burned and beaten in the infirmary.

He clenched his fists, and the muscles stood out along his arms and back, all those years of exercise and fighting about to pay off. Jor tightened his jaw as they approached the detention center, carefully scanning the hallways and remaining quiet despite his urge to run in and beat anyone who had touched Wick to the ground, and he nodded his head at Rabin. Waiting for a signal. Waiting for a plan. If he was going to get Wick back, they had to execute this perfectly, because he was not about to be beaten and leave her at that official fucker's mercy.

And by God, he would get her back.

"I know but I still wanted the company. Haven't seen you in about a year. I...I did miss you, ya know."

Sue was silent for a minute, not sure how to react to his embarassment? uneasiness? She led him through the hall, when she got to an intersection of corridors she paused for a second and casted a glance at the way that she knew was her quad. But she didn't want to go back...not yet. She started walking again continueing the way they came, pretending that they were still going the right way. She'd eventually loop them back... eventually.

She avoided glancing over at Kyle, afraid that she'd find him blushing and make him more embarassed than he already was. She glanced down at the ground as she walked, idoly watching her untied laces flying in front of her foot and then falling behind with every step. "Was it really only a year? It seemed much longer..." Much much longer... too long... The quietness felt a little awkward between them, in atempt to brighten the mood she took a chance.."Did I tell you that I finally got to see Florida. Got my walks on the beach and everything in. Finally see why you loved it soo much." She wasn't sure how he'd react, but she was walking on a thin line.. she didn't want to trouble him with the family "issue" that she'd found when she arrived, but still, if there was a chance it would brighten the mood it was worth it.

Hearing her talk about something else Kyle breathed and the red left his face.

"Did you really? Florida? Yeah, it is great. We live on a small island off the cost, I wish you could see it..." He stopped himself. He had told her all this a thousand times. Even though she never seemed to mind hearing it again and she always listened he wouldn't drag her through it again.

"I was home for a long time. But I came back. I thought about you at Battle School while I was there. Then when I came here you were just arriving. I didn't think I would be back." He still remembered the relieved feeling of seeing her when he arrived. He still followed her down the hall trying to pay attention as much as possible to where they were going. So far the layout of the school looked nothing like he saw on the map. Boyscout, ha!

"I was home for a long time. But I came back. I thought about you at Battle School while I was there..."

Sue almost broke her stride when he'd said that but recovered quickly. She thought about her own time on earth. With the uncomfortable silence that insued between her father and her, she'd found herself, hearing his voice in her head. The stories that he'd shared of his home. The words he'd used couldn't even describe what it was really like to be there. And she'd even found herself talking into the wind during more than a few of her sunset walks, almost as if she expected him to be able to hear her. And she had to admit, she'd been looking forward to seeing him when she was on her flight up. But then again, he was supposed to be shipped up before her and yet, he'd been shipped up at the same time.

"...I didn't think I would be back."

Then it hit her, he didn't plan on coming back.. he had planned on staying back at his home. And she understanded why. He had a home, not just a house in florida like she did, but a home there. A loving family to stay with, not some slut that had warmed up to her daddy...

"...Why did you come back? I mean.." she paused a little bit, her voice lowering slightly. "you had everything at home, why would you leave it all for this?"

Why did I come back? He started to shy away from the question then decided against it. If he could talk to anybody it would be Sue.

"When I first left Battle School with the graduates and flunkees, I was a flunkee. "They had a talk with me just hours before telling me that I was being transfered to command school a year early and that I would have three weeks leave earthside. I guess knowing that I was going home influenced my decision but I told them that I wouldn't come back. I told them that I wasn't a hero and that I wasn't the type of person they were looking for. They argued at first but it didn't last long. I..." He paused a moment wondering how she would think of him, "They didn't give me a chance to tell you." He didn't tell her that even if he would have been able to he couldn't tell himself truthfully that he would. I was jsut scared that you would think I was a loser.

"So while you thought I was being graduated early I was really going home for good. A failureI thought about you all the time." He started to blush again but pushed it down. While I was at home and getting used to everything that I loved I started thinking about it all and about how the buggers were coming again to try and take it away. This is the only thing I can do to help stop it so here I am. The Fleet talked to my dad and the next thing I knew I was on my way up here again. I knew you would graduate of course but I guess it never hit me that I would see you here until I did. So I am back here, but it isn't all that bad since seeing you." He shot a half smile toward her and continued to walk. My God this station is huge! In a playfull tone he added, "I couldn't leave you up here to fight the buggers alone could I?"

She glanced up and met his eyes, returning the small smile. "You're anything but a failure. You're not a failure unless you give up. You stumbled, lost your footing, maybe stayed down while contemplating whether or not it was worth getting up. But you did, and that's what counts."

She turned another corner, didn't want too lead them too astray, else he'd catch on that she was making it longer. "I am glad you did decide to come up though. Battleschool wasn't quite the same after you left and Command school would have been even worse. But it doesn't matter, because you're here now, and that's all that really counts right? I mean, and look! Now we've got the unbeatable team of Sue and Kyle to fight the buggers! Save humanity! and unfortunately, they still have to classes even though they're hero's in training!" She smiled broadly as she nudged him gently with her elbow. God she was going to have fun now that he was around again. Battle school had lost all of it's spice when he'd left.

Kyle breathed deeply and let out a sigh. If she only knew how much he didn't want to be here she might feel differently.

As they came to a door and stopped Kyle realized that they were here at last. "I know, I guess everything will work out ok."
With that he told her good night and before he knew it he was on his way toward his room.

Sue might get to where she was going eventually but she sure did take the long way there. She could maybe do with a map herself. He grinned to himself walking the short distance to his room. Boyscout, ha!

She stood there silently her smile falling, watching his retreating back until he was too far down the hall. Had she said something wrong? She'd done her best to lighten up the mood, she was estatic to see him again, but his serious demeaner unsettled her. Was there more to his story than he said? Or did she just miss one crucial detail? She let out a sigh as she entered her cell and settled in her bunk. She'd figure it all out tomorrow, and if not tomorrow, perhaps the day after. They were here for a good two years, no sense prying. He'd let her know what was on his mind eventually.

Rye stretched a little as he walked along the hallways of the Command School. His brushed his hands through his mostly dry hair. The shower had felt good after his long trip here, and now he really had no idea where to go. He glanced around, thinking. He remembered Swede saying that she was in Griffin, now. Well, why not. Seeing her again, was the best thing that had happened in a while, and last night the observetory was all he'ld been able to think about. Besides, this way he might be able to see a few old friends along the way. Glancing around every now and then to make sure he was going in the right direction, he trotted down to Griffin Barracks.

Sol followed the two twins out the door and into the hallway. At least they moved quickly. The longer they took the more likely it was that Kat would be able to retrieve her knife, and their chance to end this without further bloodshed would be gone. She understood Dominic's attitude. She barely knew them, after all, and she was asking them to face potential danger. The fact that Dominic knew who Kat was made it worse...but there was no reason she could fathom for that shaded look to fall over their faces.

Who was "Mode"?

They paused together at the bend in the hallway, and she took the lead. That matched movement was more of a comfort than an oddity now. They were older and stronger and better trained than she was, and there were three of them and only Kat and Jax against them.

"She attacked us, not the other way around," she said a tad defensively. "Gabriel is in the infirmary. She stabbed him." Her voice and her features hardened a little, but she couldn't quite contain the tearful note.

Yet another shared glance with Donovan, but Dominic held up a hand as his brother opened his mouth to speak. He would deal with this; the bitter anger of Rox's dalliance, combined with his own tired thoughts of Review and revenge on Mode, mixed to give him a quietly forceful voice, flat and demanding.

Stabbed?

"At least he's alive. What? Do you go looking for trouble, veg?" Sol shot him a defiant glance that did nothing to perturb his snide reserve. Stupid kids. All the information that Wick had shown him concerning Kat flooded back. He had only talked to the girl once. It was enough to convince him not to take her lightly.

And yet these two greens of theirs obviously had. Well, it wasn't enough information. Dominic was not about to place himself or his twin in danger for some battle between these children. He held loyalties only to Donovan-- and if Kat had a dagger, and had actually stabbed this Gabe, there was no guessing who she might target next.

"I want to know exactly what happened. All of it. Now."

Sol glared and glanced to Donovan, but Dom's brother remained impassive. Was that a slight hint of confusion she saw under the mask? There was no way to tell.

She considered trying to explain that they had no time for this explanation, but they were still moving right now, and if her talking would keep them moving, she'd do it. They had to get to that dagger before Kat or Jax made it back there. A hand rubbed absently at her neck, and her expression darkened further.

"I heard scuffling and found Kat and Gabe fighting in the Storage Bay. He...she stabbed him when I came in and he was distracted." She swallowed and waited until she was sure her voice would be steady before she continued. "I attacked her and disarmed her, but before I could finish her friend Jax came in and pulled me off. He was mostly there just to save her, I think, but he...bit me, and then grabbed her and ran off."

Dominic considered her statement briefly before continuing in his analysis. Jax? His eyebrows furrowed slightly as he glanced toward Donovan, receiving the same veiled confusion in return. Jax was dead-- there was no doubt about that. Wick had shown him files virtually confirming that fact; and he was most definitely not at Command School.

The picture of a childish Kat and her Jax imaged itself in his mind, and he smirked coldly at Sol, ignoring her glare. Mode. She was talking about Mode; those two were never far from one another, indeed.

"You must be mistaken, girl. That would have been Mode. Jax is..." he paused and considered briefly whether or not to reveal this little tidbit of information, then shrugged. She could dig through the files and come to her own conclusions, but this would save time. "There is no Jax. But Mode attacked you?"

She didn't like his tone, but they were almost there, and she needed their protection, so she swallowed her pride and thought about what he'd said before she responded. No Jax? She brought up a picture of the man's face, his eyes dark, his hair whiteblonde and spiked, a cold smirk on his face as he blocked her far too easily and yanked her close. If that hadn't been Jax, it was very close.

Her footsteps slowed for a moment as realization came to her, but she quickened them immediately to catch up. No scar. He didn't have any scars. Maybe it hadn't scarred...but she'd seen the cut the sink made when she kicked him and he fell into it.

Not Jax, but...Mode, whoever the hell that was.

"If Mode is a dead ringer for Jax, that was him. Like I said, he mostly just pulled me off and threw Kat into the hallway. I tried to attack him, but I only hit him once." Her voice was slightly ashamed. She'd thought she was better than that...but she hadn't been thinking about better or worse at the time. She'd just needed to get to Kat, and the boy was in the way. "He grabbed me and bit me." Anger she wouldn't have carried for a simple injury snuck into her tone. How dare he?! "I hit him and he let me go and ran away with Kat, and I took Gabe to the infirmary."

Interesting. Dominic absorbed this in silence before replying, voice still flat and dry. "You were lucky he didn't do more damage. I highly suggest, Sol, that you and your friend refrain from any further... scuffles... with Mode, unless you wish to get yourselves killed. He is not one to play with. And we," with a nod toward Donovan, "cannot ensure your safety if you are so foolhardy as to fight with him again. Understood?"

Her masked disbelief almost amused him, in a sardonic way. If Donovan had been unable to deal with Mode; a Creche, trained in combat, and unbelieveably fight-ready; then a little girl such as herself was no match. That Mode was willing to do anything to protect Kat was an obvious fact, and this made him share another smile with his twin, a grin that reached neither of their midnight eyes.

Mode would die, soon enough. He and Donovan would repay the spilled blood of the past. This girl should have little concern for that. They rounded another corner and came into sight of the storage bay; Dominic and Donovan backed up slowly, scanning the corridors warily before they both nodded at one another and Dom moved to palm open the door for Sol. Another guarded glance inside, and then Donovan entered, Sol following, the three in a single file as Dom watched the hallway one last time before letting the door slide shut behind them.

Rabin set off from his cell.

He'd stopped back there quickly, after leaving Wolf, to change out of the stolen riot gear and warn the two greens -- for he'd decided that the only other student in his cell who deserved the title "vet" was Wick, and most certainly not that bitchling Wes -- that if they breathed a word about what had happened that night they would both answer to him.  He assured them that he could make their lives very unpleasant if he wanted to, and they believed him.

Now he set out from Hydra Quad in his uniform pants and undershirt, slowly accelerating, his breathing deepening, his heart beating faster, his strides getting longer with each step.  Even here, in an environment so artificial that he, Rabin, dreamed of home most nights, he could close his eyes and run whenever he wanted to feel the wind in his face.

Rabin was in a good mood today.  He would have thought he might be angry, after all that had happened.  He'd taken a bitch of a beating from a pair of MPs back in his cell, and had been sent away at gunpoint from that Wolf veg's cell just a few minutes ago.  But he wasn't angry.  Tonight he felt alive.

Students were appearing in the hallways, cluttering up his path, but those that didn't get out of his way were knocked aside.  So he left the Quad area behind, and instead ran the corridors of the rest of the school, the parts that would be nearly empty this early.

He spotted her stalking past the Engineering Bay.  Rox.  She was moving away from him, in the same direction, but his speed was much greater, and soon enough the distance was closed.  Rabin slowed, though he kept jogging in place, not wanting to let his heartrate fall too low.  Even so quickly after arriving, Rabin could smell her.  An interesting mix of pheremones; sex and rage.  The sex was older and the rage was newer, as was so often the case when Rabin found both together.  Nevertheless, Rabin didn't let on what he knew after only standing next to her.  He made no secret of his talents; maybe she knew and maybe she didn't.  Either way, not many people liked knowing how easy it was to read them.  People liked to think their emotions were in their head.  They liked to think of them like thoughts. Rabin knew better.  They were all just juices and senses.  It was all simply chemistry.

So he didn't let on that he had any idea what was causing her obvious bad humor.  "Whatsamatter, Roxy?  The flashboy do a dance on your head this time?"  He grinned his usual malicious grin.

Rox was not in a particularly good mood this evening, to put it lightly. To be completely blunt about it, she was angry and uncivil and feeling as if she wanted to throw half the station's population into the spacelockes and release the vacuum. After Swede had left with Rye this morning, and Dante had eventually sighed and gone in search of Donovan, she'd been bored and irritated. She hadn't felt like being stuck alone in the barracks, and at least she might have the opportunity to find something to do if she walked around enough.

Great Buddha, what I wouldn't give to crack right now...

Her fingers were actually itching for a keyboard. Normally, she wasn't destructive, not at all. Too dangerous. Digging through files and finding information and sending letters for people was one thing. That was easy and didn't require too much thought; just a little time. But what she was dying to do now was far worse. Rox didn't want to preserve. She wanted to break.

A familiar taunting voice broke her from her destruction-hungry thoughts, and Rox tilted her head to meet Rabin's malicious smirk as he spoke. "Whatsamatter, Roxy? The flashboy do a dance on your head this time?"

Well, at least it was only Rabin. He gave it as good as he got it, and perhaps a little verbal sparring would take her mind off of its incessant demands to get back to her desk and get to work. Or maybe he'd be up for a bit of mischief tonight himself. She hadn't been able to locate Vinny, which wasn't unusual; the man had a way of completely disappearing off the face of the asteroid, and then appearing at the oddest moments. Dante's cellmate Fin had been off with that other cellmate of his, that Bali. Fin was young and reckless, and that's why he was so vastly amusing. Damn. Even her other playmates and contacts were unreachable. Rabin would have to do.

She flashed him her own brilliant smile that did nothing to hide her sarcastic intent, and eyed him appreciatively. Interesting... he had quite an assortment of bruises over his face. That she didn't expect-- Rabin was neither the one to get into fights unnecessarily, nor was he one to lose. Perfect. "Looks like you beat me in gettin' danced on, eh, sweetheart? That Wes got you pussy-whipped? Those are some nice bitchslap bruises you got there, alright."

Rabin just kept on grinning. He felt like telling someone what had happened tonight. Rox was okay; she was no friend of authority.

"MPs paid a visit to Hydra A last night," he said. "You in that market for some riot armor, Roxy? Plenty of fun toys in there I'm sure you could find use for."

Riot gear? More toys?

Her eyes widened and sparkled with mischievious delight. "MPs, eh? Whatcha do now, Rabin. Been naughty?" Rox patted his cheek and continued her slow walk beside him, smiling as he jogged in place. "And what kinda toys? I might be persuaded to take a few... off of your hands. Anything fun?"

Rabin shrugged. "Haven't really checked. Usual gear, I'd bet. You could always slip a stun prod into the flashboy's bed some night. But of course, this stuff wasn't easy to acquire. What you got to trade?"

What didn't she have to trade should have been his question. Rox smirked, but her smile faded briefly when she thought of Dominic. Well, it wasn't as if he'd come to talk to her. For all she knew, it was over. But a lingering part of her refused to admit that, and although she smiled broadly and gave Rabin a raking glance, her heart wasn't in it.

It was, however, still very much interested in this offer. "Well, lemme see now, darlin'. If you need a hack, I suppose I could manage something along those lines..." her wink and his glance said it all. Manage wasn't the word for it. Rox could, and had done, virtually everything possible with her toying around. If Rabin needed something, she could deliver. "But, if that ain't quite to your likin', I have some friends that owe me a few favors. Just depends on whatcha want. I got one kid with a nice supply of tests for this year... wouldn't hafta study anymore, Rabin. Or we could find ya a decent girl, eh?" Her tone was dry and sardonic, and she could almost sense him wanting to roll his eyes at her. So maybe not a girl. "Or a boy?"

Rabin shook his head, ignoring her jab. All boring. He already had Wes doing his classwork, and had no real use for hacking. As for women, . . .

Rabin was a hunter. Having game just handed to him was . . . unsportsmanlike.

"Nah," he said, shaking his head. "Nah, what I was thinking was, you could simply put this gear to a good cause -- like making flash completely miserable."

That warranted a grin. A very big grin.

"That, Rabin, you almost wouldn't hafta trade me for." Nicolai. Why hadn't she thought of Nicolai to take her bad mood out on? Cracking was fun, but torturing the flashboy... almost infinitely better. Besides, he deserved it. Badly.

Her eyes twinkled again and she skipped playfully beside him, excited with a malicious smile across her face. Rox giggled and poked Rabin, hopping around him. "Heehee, didya like my prank in the game arena? Flashboy dinnit know what hit him, and he's still all sulkin' to himself. But..." she remembered Bali having to throw Nicolai out of the barracks, Dante having to sleep in her own cell to avoid his anger. "He's been mean 'bout it. I think he needs a reminder, neh?"

She was on a roll now. "Oooh! Doya have cuffs? We should cuff him somewhere, like... like the library. Do it after lights out so no one sees, then leave him there!" Rabin shot her a half-amused glance as she pranced and crowed with laughter. "In his underwear!"

Rabin's grin got even wider. He liked the way Rox thought.

"Roxy, you're my hero."

Lights out. Another hour away. He had some time to kill, then. He'd already covered almost all the corridors accessible to students, and besides, with classes out and dinner ending there would be too many greens in his way.

"Let's get the gear," he said. "I wanna get started."

Another suddenly good idea hit Rox, and she did a cartwheel in the corridor with excitement. Rabin grinned at her, leading the way back toward his cell, and she practically bounced as she followed him, eyes gleaming. She had just the way to get Dominic back in a good mood, and hopefully her little joke would reconcile things between them. Knock some starch out of the flashboy, and then get her own boy back. Kill two birds with one stone.

Rox's busy little mind rejoiced.

"Oooh, I have an even better idea... but I'll save that as a surprise for you, Rabin! Hurry up..." she grabbed his hand and tugged him as she started to run. "Sooner the better, you're gonna love it!"

He struck the crate hard enough with the side of his fist to make it crack, the heavy plastic splitting with a loud snap. The pain in his hand gave him something new to focus on and he looked at it strangely. Why had he done that?

Anjel...

Lost...

She was as lost to him as he was to himself. He could feel himself slipping again, and this time he felt no reason to fight back. There was nothing left to him, nothing but Katera and her bloody dagger and everything he'd done to give him life at all.

That wasn't a life he wanted to face, and the one who did was struggling to come free.

Footsteps in the corridor made him shrink back against the crates instinctively, and he was pressed tightly against them in shadow when the walker came into view. She paid him no mind, and he stared at her with wide eyes as she moved past him and into the Girls' Showers. Solenis. Katera's Wick.

Yet she didn't look like Wick. There was no hint of mockery or deviousness in her features. She looked slightly apprehensive and lost in thought. His eyes narrowed a little. They were all the same, Dante, Roxy, Katera, all of them, ready to use and discard and move on to the next...but he remembered her face as she fought with Katera. He knew that face. He'd worn it when he fought Jor in Anjel's quarters.

But Solenis had been winning.

He stood slowly and silently, a new resolve hardening on his features, and caught the door before it closed entirely. It obediently re-opened, and he stepped inside. A few moments later, the door jolted as it was knocked off its track.

A bloody nose, split lip, new bruises, and a five-inch gash along her forearm-- all this, and Kat still couldn't distract her mind enough to focus on something other than Mode.

Was she really so far gone that even hunting couldn't clear her mind?

Mode. Everything was Mode. She'd picked a random soldier and followed him through the school, stalking, waiting until there were no other students around to see her pounce. What a delicious little piece of prey, too, and he hadn't been afraid to fight back. Each strike redeemed her just a little. Each drop of his blood soothed her soul.

It still hadn't been enough.

The pain was welcome and cherished, yet her thoughts kept stabbing through the pleasant haze of cold adrenaline in her veins and hot anger in her psyche. Disgusted with her failure, she'd let the boy go, dejected and sulking to herself as she wiped the blood that trickled from her nose, licked her cut lip, and watched the drops of crimson that leaked slowly from the cut on her arm.

A few passing soldiers gave her wary, almost frightened glances, but with her world revolving around current situation with Mode, everything else went unnoticed. Kat simply didn't care. It was time for a strategic retreat, and as much as she wished to avoid it, she knew she'd have to go back to her cell and lick her wounds and try to make some sense of it all.

The sting of her gash distracted her momentarily, and Kat pressed her hand against the injury, watching in detached fascination as the blood welled between her fingers. Nothing severe. She'd live. For a dark moment, she almost wished she wouldn't.

So melodramatic. Snap out of it and get back to work. You have quite a repetoire of enemies this time. Won't do to mope around when you could be doing something about that...

Kat was oblivious to the muted footsteps approaching from behind as she stalked silently down the empty corridor and sighed bitterly to herself.

I wish Jax was here...

He turned a corner in the hallway and stopped when he saw Katera walking away from him down the corridor. He hung there debating for a few seconds before jogging noiselessly after her. As silent as he was, she still turned around just before he arrived, and he slowed to a walk and stopped.

Her eyes were soft emerald, and he just stood there, looking at the new injuries, the cut on her arm and the bloody nose, the split lip. She'd gone and fought someone else. Not Ryan, surely not Ryan, not in her current state, but someone.

He softened and wiped a little of the blood away from her face with the edge of his thumb, gentle on the bruised skin. "Hi, Kat," he said almost shyly, dropping his hand to his side. "Can we talk?" His voice was soft and undemanding, but the intensity was there.

All the things she'd been planning to say to Mode suddenly slipped away as he paused before her, gentle touch wiping some of the blood from her face, and his voice was only soft and quiet when he spoke.

Kat could only watch him silently.

A tumult of emotion. First, disbelief, that considering his injuries, he could manage to walk with such graceful ease again. Maybe he'd found someone else to tend to his wounds, since he'd been so reluctant to let her last night. And then a flash of anger at his sudden change. Didn't he know how much his distrust had hurt her? Yet he had the audacity now to act as if nothing had happened. Sometimes Mode changed too quickly for her to follow, and she wondered if she'd ever understand that.

But she was tired. Blood continued to flow from between her fingers as she kept her hand pressed to the cut on her arm, and there was nothing more she wanted than to curl with him around her, to rest safely with him and not to be alone. Perhaps she could forget about everything for just a little while.

And so she raised her eyes again to meet his, golden jade and cooly calm, and nodded once.

Blood dripped from her arm, fell onto the end of his boot, and he gave her a concerned frown, brushing her hand gently to the side and covering the cut with his own, his larger palm effectively sealing it, and the blood stopped flowing.

"I'm sorry, Kat," he said quietly, his eyes on hers. "Thank you for taking care of me."

As soon as the words left his lips, he felt better. It wasn't enough to displace the dark, wasn't enough by a long way, but it was something. He was not heartless, he was not worthless; his love for Katera made him better than that, and he brushed her hair away from her face with the other, a light touch that barely moved her hair, and kissed her forehead. "We should wrap that," he said matter-of-factly, and gave her a small smile. It was a light wound, and she'd probably had fun acquiring it.

It had felt good to let it go. It felt even better to bring it back.

He thanked her, and all of Kat's anger and uncertainty melted away.

She didn't know what to say, and so she remained silent, but her eyes betrayed her. Finally that gratitude and relief hit her features, and she smiled tentatively at Mode, glancing down to where his hand wrapped around her arm, sealing her wound. They could take care of eachother.

Kat was content.

Mode began to walk slowly down the corridor, keeping pace as he continued to use his fingers to apply pressure to that gash, and she walked beside him toward the barracks. "Love you..."

They walked briskly toward the Commons.

As they did, Gabe was thinking. He'd decided that a meeting was necessary in order to buy them time. Which was a perfectly good plan. They needed some way of putting off Kat and her dagger for a few days, and a meeting was a god way to do that. Except, of course, for the fact that Gabe had no idea what he would say, or what could possibly smother the flames of rage inside the monster called Quistin.

Well, we're on our way now. I'd better damn well think of something fast.

He had to appeal to Kat somehow. He had to use logic she would understand. He had to speak her language. But how? What could he appeal to, in a creature with no heart or soul? What would she understand?

Not threats. It was pretty clear that she was too crazy to fear for her own life. But then, threat of death wasn't the only kind of threat, was it? So perhaps threats were viable, so long as they were a very specific kind of threat.

What about emotion? Was it possible to appeal to this creature's emotions?

Internally, Gabe sneered. Of course not. That... thing... could never understand. Letting her know what I feel for Sol will only make her understand our vulnerability. Because we love each other we are strong. But because we love each other we are also very, very weak. Too dangerous to try. She woudln't understand anyway.

Would she? Gabe could remember Jax. It had been odd, but Gabe knew that there had been something between those two. It was like love, in a way, but... love that was tainted by hate as well. It certainly wasn't the type of love Gabe understood.

Well, Jax was gone. Apparently this Mode character had taken his place.

Mode. So very similar to Jax, really. Things began to fit together in Gabe's mind. Could it be, perhaps, that Kat did know love? Even if it were sick, twisted, homicidal insanity; even if it was more lust and hatred than love. But if Kat thought of it as love, then that was all that mattered. Because if that's how she thought of it, he could appeal to that. That could be the bridge.

New determination further hardened Gabe's features, and he strode on faster.

Max walked into the hall and headed toward the common he saw when he first came in. He was looking for the biggest guy he could find, Max learned from an old female friend back in Battle school that fear was absolutly useless. Max also new that he had to prove himself in order to show that he wasn't the same old little boy he used to be.
Max mumbled to himself at that moment, "I have to prove myself here once and for all.
I'll show everyone who thought they had to stick up for me at battle school that it's my turn now."

After composing the letter and posting it on the school's network, von Starnburg decided to inspect his chosen area for the Parade - the Commons area. He had never looked at it closely, so he decided to make a personal inspection to ensure that it would be big enough.

As he paced down the hallways, von Starnburg found his thoughts divided between two desires. The first was to punish the boy Rabin - Johan had read the files and had deduced that he had been then one with the gun in the detention cell. Such impudence could not go unanswered, and he felt that punishing the boy in front of the rest of the students would send an acceptable message. Secondly, he still found himself intrigued by the case of young Terrence - or Asmodeus as he preferred to be called - how could one boy show such unique potential and yet such obvious weakness. Von Starnburg resolved to find out about this boy.

Past that, he had only general plans for the school. Discipline would have to be tightened of course, even as security and surveilance were strengthened. Most of his goals were short-term - in spite of what he had told the major, there was no telling what would happen when his superiors found out about his actions.

Johan's reverie was interrupted when he rounded a corner and saw a female student approaching him. Long hair, red, silver-grey eyes. Dante, he remembered, Terrence's former commander. As they passed each other she saw him eyeing her, and a look of curiosity flitted across her face, quickly replaced by a careful mask of neutrality. She kept walking.

He turned and said to her retreating back, "Ms. Iddantel. A word if you please."

Classes were over for the day, and Dante wanted only to find someplace quiet to relax, and ignore the rest of the world once more. Bali had tracked her down, waiting outside of her last lecture to tell her about this parade review scheduled tomorrow, and she made a mental note to visit Lem before departing, in search of Donovan.

The corridors were crowded, but she paid the other soldiers no heed, stalking silently through the hallways back toward the quad barracks. As she came around another corner, a tall, older man, dressed in the stark imposing black of the IA, paused and stared intently at her. His gaze was unsettling, cold and calculating, and Dante buried her unwilling curiosity beneath the ice.

Only a few steps past him, however, until she heard an accented voice call her name. "Ms. Iddantel. A word, if you please." Dante stopped midstride, features masking as she turned to face him and gave him a stare of pure glacier calm, eyes freezing to quicksilver. She didn't know this man. What could he possibly want with her?

But icy rudeness would get her nowhere, and she fell into the coolly polite, sternly commanding aura she used to wear, back in BattleSchool, back in Fox Army when she ruled all. Shoulders squared, posture straight and precise, her entire being composed and careful and reserved. When she spoke, it was with liquid accented ice. "Certainly, sir."

As they left the Observatory, Geneva skillfully extricated herself from the grasp of Sasha. She wasn;t so certain that this was a good idea. Whatever appeal he held a moment ago must have been brought on by the vastness of space hovering near them through the observatory window. In the hallway, his swarthy appearance made her pause.

She walked a step ahead of him in the hallway headed toward the Cavern. She looked occasionally over her shoulder as if to make certain he was following.

She turned and approached, every inch the professional. Having nothing to gain through open intimidation - yet - von Starnburg resolved to remain calm. He wanted her genuine opinion, after all, a natural reaction. When he needed solid information, he could easily pull her in and get it.

He motioned her to follow, and she fell in step with nearly imperceptible hesitation. Hands clasped behind his back, he walked in silence for a moment, before finally turning to face her.

"Tell me," he said, "What are your impressions of Nathan Terrence?" She was surprised, he could tell, though that was quickly replaced by suspicion. Johan could see her weighing her options, and trying to determine just what he wanted from her. "Do please take your time," he said with a slight smile.

The mask of ice didn't fall over her features quickly enough to hide her surprise, nor did it keep a hint of suspicion from bleeding through. Dante was overwhelmingly wary of this man, and took a long moment as she stalked beside him in quiet reflection before she gave him her gaze again, quicksilver eyes cold and expression frozen.

What he did want with Nathan?

Impressions. Oh, but she could give him so much more. More than much more; everything. Every single little heartbreaking and brutal detail of their time together, their bloody reunion, their battles and words and touches. But she wouldn't. Memories of Angel were sacred. Memories of Mode... those she didn't care to remember.

And so Dante gave him the glacier blank stare that had become her trademark following their fight, regarded him with the cool deference given a superior officer, and answered in the most noncommital polite tone she could muster.

"He was a soldier in my army. We were involved in a fight. I was hospitalized, and he was expelled. All the relevant information can be found in our personnel reports. Beyond that, I'm unaware of what you wish to know, sir."

He dispelled her lie with a wave of his hand. "Yes, yes. And I'm sure your relationship was strictly professional, wasn't it?" He shook his head reproachfully. "You see? I know what happened - but my investigation requires me to know more. You can tell me first hand details and impressions that are lost in beurocratic filing. You are not in trouble here;" yet, he added mentally, but his eyes showed nothing but the most utter sincerity. "Whatever you want for him - redemption or damnation - you can only affect the outcome by helping me."

Dante did not like where this was headed.

He can't touch you, the ice sneered. You've done nothing wrong. You owe nothing, and whatever he wants to know is none of his business. Show him, Commander Iddantel, that you don't appreciate such inquiries upon your pain...

"I don't know what you're referring to, sir." Her eyes narrowed slightly, and displayed that while she knew perfectly well what he was talking about, he would get nothing from her. She waved her own hand in reflective dismissal, mercury gaze dancing with coldfire, and regarded him placidly as she paused in the corridor. "That was two years ago, and whatever misdeeds Nathan committed, I'm sure he's paid the price."

More than paid that price, her icy gaze told him. I spent days in the infirmary recovering from his misdeeds. And the twisted man that is no longer my Angel is the result. I paid as much as he did. But you won't get that from me, whoever you are.

"I'm not sure what you want to know, Leiutenant Colonel..." Dante eyed his bars and gave him a smile of pure ice. "But perhaps I am not the one with the information you seek."
