Wick walked down the corridor, finally pausing at the door with the huge snarling grey timberwolf on it, and then palmed it open. The door slid back into its frame and she stepped inside.

Each Quad was apparently designed in the same fashion, a central hallway with four doors for each individual cell of the Quad.

She paused at each door. Jor's name was listed on the third, with three other names she didn't recognize. She took a breath. There was no guarantee he was here yet, and she'd be punished if she was found in another Quad without a pass or a guide...but she had to see him. Two weeks without him with the strain of her father's disdain had left her smoldering, and she wasn't willing to endure any longer.

She placed her hand decisively on the panel, and the door slid noiselessly out of her way and she stepped inside.

Wick led Jor down the hallway, pausing to indicate the Hydra Quad, the nine-headed serpent hissing fire on the front. "My Quad," she said briefly. "Not too many girls here in Command School. The boys in my cell practically wet their pants like shuttlebabies." She grinned at the recollection and continued down the hall, towards the Commons.

He made a mock-frown at her statement, moving closer until he was pressed against her back, his face near her ear. "There are boys in your Quad? Tsk tsk..." Jor smirked and growled, then poked her lightly in the ribs. "Continue on my tour, please. I'll have to remember where your room is for further..." He let himself trail off as his eyes met hers. "Well?"

Still holding Wick's hand, Jor paused in front of his Quad Barracks, smiling down at her, his eyes shining jade. Leaning in, he kissed her gently, wrapping an arm around to rest his fingers in the small of her back, pulling her close for a moment. Then he raised her hand to his lips, kissing the ring he'd given her. "I'd better go meet my new commander," he growled quietly, reluctant to leave her again. After two weeks, even a few minutes now would seem like months. "But maybe you'll have dinner with me later?"

She grinned and nodded, and with a smirk and a curt salute, Jor palmed open the door to his Quad Barracks and entered.

Mat headed out of the room. Light, but he needed a break. Just one break, but no, all he got were the bad things. And to top it all off, those damn dice had started rolling again and that was never a good sign. Something was going to happen, something that he would most likely regret and it had all started with that lummox in his barracks.

All these things were going through his mind as he made his way for the commons. I need to get out of here. That was the thought that kept repeating itself over and over again in his mind. Well that and those damn dice that kept on rolling and rolling. That was until he reached the commons, because as soon as he stepped through the door they stopped.

Rhemi Walked quickly through the hallways, checking ahead and behind for wandering soldiers so he wouldnt be disturbed. He proceeded through a quick series of hallways until he found a slight indention that marked a panel he somehow 'knew' was there. He slid his fingers along the seam then, checking twice more up and down the hall, knelt and pulled a slender wire and attached it to the Padd he carried with. Sliding the wire carefully beneath the seam, it attached, and Rhemi went about his work, a soft blue glow reflected off the wall from his eyes. After a bit, his work complete, he slipped the wire back and slid the pannel back into place. Rhemi stood, checked quietly back up and down the hall, then returned to his barracks. The blue light ceased.

She smiled a little. "Good. The simulators are the focus for competition here, as I'm sure you've heard." She repeated her explanation of the combat system. "Do you have a major chosen yet? Tactical/Weapons people like to try for the supply ship...but my supply driver is pretty damn good. Navigators go for the scout, and my scout's not as hot as my supply captain. You'd probably have a better shot if that's your gig. Or," she grinned mischieviously, "you can try for my job. Good luck." She smiled at him as she led him out of the hallways and into the Commons.

"I'd like that maybe. Stiff competition with the commander? I can handle that." Rhemi smiled easily at her as they continued down the hall. Your loadout is being swapped right now, and new mission objectives will be waiting for you at your next data feed. there's been a change in plans At this Rhemi paused, almost skipping a step but smiled shyly to try and recover.

Helen smiled, happy that she was finally with castor again, it had been so long and Castor was one of the few people that she felt wholey comfortable with talking to. Not just casual chatting, but actually talking to. And after he'd left she'd gone through hell with that kid from Griffin and had no one to talk to about it.

"I take it then that the girls here aren't expected to be very good at the sims then? And who's Sasha? A friend of yours?"

He chuckled a little nervously, but he was already chilling out. It was hard to be nervous around Helen anymore. She was Helen. "Well, I mean, a few of them are, I guess. But there's just so many more guys here that usually they're better, you know? Sasha's the Panther Quad commander. He's a pretty cool guy, knows his stuff and all. I don't think he's had a girl in his army before though." He shifted her bag a little. Sasha really was going to flip...but it'd be alright after he saw what Helen could do in the simulator.

"Here we are," he said, cheer returning to his face as he looked at the big black panther on the door, stalking its prey, eyes fastened on the viewer if the picture. "Home sweet home." He palmed the door open and led her inside.

Helen let Castor lead her back through the hallways to the Panther Command Quarters. He seemed almost embarrassed as they had left the Game Arena... same old Cas, still blushes all the time when it comes to girls.

Before she knocked on the door she turned to Castor. "Never knew i'd ever actually miss someone until you graduated. It's nice to be back." She turned away, hoping he would be forced to blush at her remark and knocked on the door. Hope he's as cool as Castor says he is...

Cas turned away, his cheeks flushing. He caught the edge of her smile and returned it ruefully. She liked making him blush. "Uh, thanks, Helen," he said and gave her a wry smile when he could manage it. One of these days he was going to trick HER into blushing instead.

Riiiiiiiight.

The door slid open at her touch and he followed her in, and winced when he saw the look on Sasha's face. He was ... unthrilled, to say the least. "Uh...hey Sash- sir. This is Tayce. She's one of the new fish from Cell B." Sasha's cold stare went from Castor to Tayce - very briefly - and then back to Castor. Dark blue eyes narrowed just a little. Perfect. Time to rally.

"She's...a hell of a pilot, sir. I think she'd be a great scout." Sasha's eyes widened this time, first at his audacity and then at his ridiculous suggestion. A girl in his scout? Not bloody likely.

At 5'11, Sasha topped Castor by a good 3 inches, and practically towered over Tayce. He crossed his arms across his chest and looked the girl over, the ice in his eyes melting a little as they became unreadable. He would see what this girl was made of. If she didn't pass, he'd trade her, and that was it. As for Scout, he didn't care how badly Cas wanted to land the girl, there was no way in hell he'd put some inferior girl pilot as his eyes and ears in a battle.

"You're Tayce?" His voice was calm, quiet, and a little rough.

Helen stood stiffly watching the exchange between the two. Castor had said he was pretty cool, but he almost seemed scary... either that or he just didn't like being sent a girl. Helen stared at her Commander as he towered over her, it was bad enough that she was graduated early and most of the soldiers were taller than her, but her commander completely towered over her.

"Uh, Yes sir. Tayce Martial. But everyone calls me Helen, sir."

Sasha looked back to Castor, and he winced a little, but came to Helen's defense. "Yes sir, that's right. We were in Fox together back in BattleSchool." Sasha stared at him a moment longer, reading him, and Castor nearly sighed in relief when he finally looked away, back to Helen. Then he stood there and suffered pangs for her as Sasha said, "Alright, Helen. How old are you? Are they letting BattleSchool brats up here early now?" Castor winced again. Sasha must have been in a horrible mood when he'd gotten back from class, and Cas had made it worse just because he couldn't wait to get Helen to the simulator. Now she was going to pay the price for his misjudgement. He looked at her miserably, and then pleadingly back at Sasha. His commander ignored him, focusing on the girl.

Helen almost winced as he said her name with a sarcastic tone and did her best to ignore the insults. "I'm 13 sir, they graduated me from battle school early." She stood stiffly, afraid a sudden move would anger her already irritable commander. If this would be the way that he'd act around her always, she had her work cut out for her... she needed to stay in this army. Commanders hate to be forced to take a soldier that another commander threw away and she needed to graduate.

Sasha studied Helen and then looked away. His dark countenance changed to frustrated acceptance, and he sighed. "Cas, get her settled in, and then come back. We have some items to discuss concerning protocol and new arrivals." Castor swallowed and nodded, and taking Helen's arm, he beat a hasty retreat, tugging her out of the commander's quarters and down the Panther Quad Hall to Cell B. It was still empty, and once they were inside and the door closed, Cas said, "Oh, man, Helen, I am SO sorry, I had NO idea he'd be that pissed. He's really not that bad, not usually. He's just had a hard day or something. If you want to hit me you can." He closed his eyes and scrunched up his face.

Rabin set out from his cell at a jog. He usually started at a casual pace, and then accelerated as his mind did also.

He wouldn't go to the gym. Those were all machines created for the sole purpose of straining muscle without moving. The exertion wasn't all there was to exercise -- Rabin needed the feel of speed, the wind against his face, the ground beneath his feet. Of course, in this place, there was no wind, and the ground was metal plating. But the spirit was the same. He could not sit in a machine and lift heavy objects. He had to be moving.

So he didn't go anywhere. He just ran. And steadily, his pace did increase. What started as a jog became a run, and then a sprint. He ran as fast as his legs would carry him, felt the brush of the recirculated air against his face, not like real wind, but as close as he could find in this prison. He dodged numerous students in the hallways -- vegs and vets alike. He paid them no attention. His mind hardly even registered what he was doing, except at the most basic levels. He was moving without bothering to look where he was going -- his body could take care of that for him. Meanwhile, his mind was free, his mind was clear.

He was alive.

Mode was just about to re-enter the Python Quad when the sound of a mass of booted feet paused him. When the MPs came into view, his stomach turned over. When he saw that his presence made them hasten their steps, he stood away from the door and faced them.

They slowed and stopped several feet from him, making a solid semi-circle. They didn't draw their guns, but they didn't approach him. They'd been briefed on his file, knew what he could do with himself if they got too close, but he had to show some sort of force before they'd use their weapons to subdue him.

He made no threatening moves. A few of them looked a little too eager as it was, and only half of them were tranquilizers.

"Nathan Terrence, you are under arrest for the assault of Moira Callenstrom. You will accompany us to the Detention Block."

He felt curiously light and indifferent. He didn't care anymore. He'd gotten what he wanted to done, and that's what mattered. Now he didn't care what happened to him. His vengeance was complete.

Why did he feel so hollow?

An image of Kat flashed through his mind, and he pushed it away. He moved forward as they indicated, bowing his head a little. What would happen to her now? He would never know. He knew what happened to Charybdis kids who violated their probation.

Then the guards were around him, and one of them shoved him forward from behind.

He kept walking.

Rabin jogged through the halls of the Quad area. He'd checked Nicolai's cell, but the flashboy hadn't been there. The only other place Nicolai was likely to be was the Game Area, showing off. Rabin started in that direction.

Before he'd even left the Quad Area, however, he spotted Nicolai coming his way. He slowed to a stop a few meters from Nicolai, and spoke loudly. "What happened today, flash? Who did that to her?"

Tired and frustrated, Nicolai was still scouring the winding maze of rooms and corridors in the school. He'd been unsuccessful finding either Mitch or Lem, like Rox had wanted him to. So now, completely exasperated by his pointless task, he was now searching for anyone; Rox, Swede, Dante... anyone who might know what was going on. Rabin rounded the corner before him, and Nicolai almost sighed. He most certainly wasn't looking for Rabin.

The other boy paused, voice loud. "What happened today, flash? Who did that to her?" A little confused, Nic narrowed his blue eyes at Rabin, disliking his arrogant demanding tone. Until he realized that he must be talking about Wick... Wick, stuck in the infirmary, bruised and burned and beaten.

"She said some boy named Mode did it. Asmodeus. Dante knows him, real name Nathan Terrence. He's one of the Institute probies." Nicolai moved closer, watching Rabin carefully. "Why do you care though, Rabin? I thought you didn't give a shit about anyone?"

Nicolai eyed Rabin warily for a moment, trying to listen as the boy muttered to himself, but gave up and crossed his arms over his chest. He didn't appreciate Rabin's attitude any more than he was sure Rabin appreciated his. But whatever the other boy was up to, he could really care less. Wick was safe, getting better, and Nathan had been taken into custody.

"I assume they arrested him. But if they didn't, he's in Python barracks."

Rabin didn't say another word. He set off back toward the Python Quad, first at a jog, but picking up speed quickly.

He would start with the probie's cell, because if he was in the Detention Area, there wasn't much chance of Rabin getting in to see him. And Rabin wanted to get close. He wanted to see for himself if this "Mode" had done it.

Or, to be perfectly accurate, to smell for himself.

Jor couldn't remember the last time he'd felt so out of control with rage.

His boots pounded heavily as he ran wildly through the corridors, breathing rapidly as he pumped his legs, running as if demonds were chasing him, hellfire burning at his heels. And in a sense it was; his own guilt and anger was after him, remorse for leaving Wick to face Nathan's wrath and revenge alone... a crazy fear that the boy had done more than just beat her, had actually... he couldn't even think the words as he sprinted. Passersby cursed in annoyance as he shoved through groups of soldiers gathered, but he ignored everything and everyone in favor of the single thought that repeated brokenly through his mind.

I'll kill Nathan someday...

Wick limped into the Quad Hallways a good ten paces before she saw him.

He was standing perfectly still, in the hollow of one of the empty Quad entrances with no sigil on the door. His muscular arms were crossed, but he was completely unfocused, swirling smoke eyes staring at the blank wall just two feet from him, oblivious to the passing traffic in the hallway.

Mode.

Wick approached warily, fear making her light on her feet despite her injured ankle. He took no notice of her, not even when she walked right up to the alcove, not until she spoke. "Nathan...?" Her voice was low, wary and a little curious. There were other people in this hallway. He wouldn't attack her here, she was certain. He wasn't that unbalanced. Yet.

The change in his eyes was rapid enough to be frightening as the slate solidified, his head snapping towards her with all the shock of someone waking from a dream. Recognition flared a second later, and he unfolded his arms and stood away from the wall, hands at his sides as he looked at her coldly, eyes narrowed, a tiny smirk on his features.

Wick fell back a step, but then stood her ground. She had been looking for him. She hadn't expected to find him this easily. She couldn't trust Jor or Dominic to do this prodding for her. They didn't have the knowledge, and they didn't have the tact...and they didn't have the ammunition she did with this particular subject. This she had to do for herself.

"Hello, Wick." His voice was identical to that moment in the storage bay when he'd turned on the lights, and she shivered.

Mode came back from the edge of awareness to find Wick standing next to him, the visible pulse in her throat a testament to her fear, even if she managed to keep her eyes mostly empty. As he watched, she became a little emptier, her eyes more hollow, her mouth drawn in and defensive.

"Hello, Wick," he said with the slightest of smirks. "Need something? A light, maybe?"

Her pale eyes widened briefly, but then it was gone. "You promised," was all she said. The fear wasn't in her eyes, but it was in her voice, the razor edge of terror making him smile a little wider before her words reached the rational part of his mind. Promised...? "I didn't promise you shit, Wick. What the hell are you talking about?" He was irritable and angry. His trip to the showers had cleaned his body, but his mind refused to shut down. He wasn't in the mood to deal with this little bitch and she knew it.

"I'm talking about Jor. Damn you, you promised, Mode! Promised..." He glared at the girl in confusion. Jor? He hadn't laid a finger on the boy since their little altercation in the barracks, and even then, Kat did most of the work. "I didn't touch him, you little pyro bitch," he growled, reaching forward and grabbing her left arm. "You must be wrong."

"No, you let Kat do it instead, you lazy, cowardly BASTARD. That's the same thing. If you can't keep your bitch under control - "

He slapped her cheek then, and she gasped, but didn't cry out. "You'd better watch your mouth, flicker," he said finally, his voice seething with hatred.

She gasped when he struck her, but she looked back in time to see him looking around the hallway nervously. No one had noticed him strike her, but the crowds were getting larger as more classes let out. That hesitancy made her bolder. He couldn't seriously hurt her here, and she was in close range of true safe territory in the Hydra Quad Barracks.

"What's wrong, Mode?" she said with a contemptuous smirk, her voice too low to be heard by the passersby but thick with sarcastic pity. "Is she a little too much for you to handle? Or have you just been holding back too much? You do seem to have a problem drawing the line when it comes to chastising your women." Those grey eyes widened, and she stared in fascination as the madness in them began to grow.

He plucked her easily from the hallway, and she stifled an exclamation of surprise as he drew her into the alcove. She knew better than to struggle; wounded as she was, she wouldn't get far.

The fear that leaked through her mask of defiant complacency made him smirk as he pushed her against the wall of the alcove. She tensed when he brought his hand to her throat, sliding the fingers of his right hand against the bruised paper-white skin but not pressing down, just tilting her chin up almost gently. "Like this, right?" he whispered huskily, his eyes holding her own as he bore down.

Her eyes widened and she let out a tiny gasp as he put her into her favorite pain lock, the edges of her vision fuzzing and going red as the pressure against that buried nerve complex had her panting with the effort to scream, but she couldn't get enough breath. The rest of his hand tightened and began to interfere with her blood flow, and she began to shake as her muscles started to go lax.

He held her up easily, maintaining the hold, allowing her a little more air or blood if those wide ice eyes got too clouded, but never enough to cry out. Her muscles were twitching in sympathetic pain as she tried to remain calm, but she was rapidly approaching a state of pure panic.

He leaned towards her, placing his head next to hers, his mouth near her ear. "Listen very carefully to me, Wick," he said, his voice smooth, lethal. "I was ready to let our acquaintance end, before, but every time I see you reminds me of how much I would enjoy spending some more time with you." His voice turned mockingly broken. "It's...so hard to stay away from you, Moira...if you don't keep yourself out of my sight, I might not be able to restrain myself." He pulled back, narrowing his eyes, murderous intent written on his features. "Do you understand me, flicker?"

He dropped her then, and she hit the floor, gasping and gagging, her muscles still spasming a little as she tried desperately to catch her breath. Watching her struggle, he was suddenly aware of how easy it would be to drag the little bitch into one of these empty Quad sections and finish her off...but the Quads here might be holocammed, and he wasn't going to ice just for the meager satisfaction her painful death would bring him.

With an effort, he composed himself enough to watch her with clinical interest before he turned away and stepped out of the alcove, moving back towards his barracks and palming the door open.

Her hunting was rather unsuccessful, and Kat was anything but pleased.

Dominic had been one short, rather amusing but disturbing distraction. Whatever his interest in her was remained unclear, but his comments concerning Mode had alerted her to retreat. Anything concerning Mode right now was beyond her capacity to handle logically. With every step she took down the corridors, her mind would refocus on him, the weight of the dagger strapped to her right calf a constant reminder. No, she hadn't wanted to discuss that with Dominic at all, no matter the potential for fun he had carried. At this point, personal involvement was not an option.

The other boy she'd managed to find hadn't been much fun either. A few punches, a nice solid kick or two, and he'd been down on the ground, already begging. She hadn't even bothered to toy with him more, his whining voice irritating her. She wanted a fight, real hand-to-hand combat, and even as she beat the boy, each punch reminded her of her skirmish with Mode.

Damnit. Kat was tired of thinking about Mode.

So when she rounded a corner and caught sight of a slumped girl, half-hidden in an empty alcove, her interest was piqued. Maybe not her normal choice of prey, but anything was welcome in her frustrated state. Kat snuck closer, eyeing the almost unconscious girl with a flicker of malice in her serpentine-gold gaze. It wasn't until she kneeled, lifting the girl's face in her hand, that her eyes widened in recognition. Wick. She withdrew her hand then, letting Wick's head roll to the side again as she drew a sharp fingernail along her bruised cheek. "Wake up, Wicky..."

Wick forced her eyes to focus. The red-black mist that still clung to her vision wasn't thick enough to make her blind, but she still took a good ten seconds to identify the redheaded visitor who knew her name. Katera.

Perfect.

Breathing was agony. Her windpipe and the nerve complex he'd pressed on were bruised. She favored the pain lock because little pressure could cause a lot of discomfort very quickly without causing lasting complications. He was more powerful than she was. He'd used way too much strength, and he'd damaged her. She needed to get to the infirmary, but she doubted Kat was here to help her out.

She couldn't turn her head; the muscles and tendons were screaming too loudly to take any instruction. She focused on Kat as best she could, still hissing breath in through her teeth unevenly. It took unimaginable effort to force her voice through her bruised throat. "Heyo...Kat....right?" Her hoarse whisper made her hiss in more breath as the pain threatened to make her whimper.

Wick knew her name.

She remained silent, head tilting slightly, curls falling into her face as she examined Wick with all the disinterest she could muster. But the identification rubbed a little on the edges of her nerves. Wick knew her name. She doubted that Mode had mentioned her at all during his attack, so unless he'd seen this girl recently, that was most unlikely. Which left the only other possibility, and her eyebrow raised as she watched the girl.

There had been that small... altercation with Jor in the barracks. She knew of their relationship, and Jor must have told Wick about how she'd stepped in and attacked him first. She wondered briefly whether Wick knew of her protection of Jor too, but that thought was quickly dismissed. Wick knew her, knew what happened. Delightful.

"Mmmmm..." Kat purred, still eyeing Wick carefully, warily. The girl was struggling to breath, struggling to even whisper. She couldn't even turn her head, and the passivity of her muscles did not escape Kat's notice. Something must have happened, or someone must have attacked her. Even more interesting... with a quick flick of her head, she glanced up and down the corridor, eyes scanning for any sign of Mode. She didn't know of anyone else who might want to harm Wick, and the girl's presence meant she hadn't been sprawled here for long; there were too many other soldiers in the hallways, and someone surely would have spotted her. Which meant that Mode had been here, and recently.

Kat breathed a quiet sigh of relief. At least he wasn't here, to catch her with his greatest enemy. With careful movements, she lifted Wick's chin to survey the bruised damage on her throat. Fresh fingermarks adorned the pale white skin, and as she licked her canines in reflective analysis, Wick's cloudy ice eyes moved to watch her. Eyes narrowing, Kat glanced up to meet her gaze. "Mode was here." It was a statement, not a question, and she waited for the girl's response.

Wick could do nothing but hiss silently in pain as Kat lifted her head again, the excrutiating twisting of the muscles in her neck assailing her. At last the girl let her head drop, and the lack of motion seemed almost pleasant in contrast, despite the constant throb.

When she could speak again, her thoughts were scattered when the girl spoke again. "Mode was here."

Wick passed her eyes over the girl before her. Muscled, but it was low-key. Scars. Graceful, not the inhuman liquid grace Mode dealt in, but the smooth animal grace of a feline. Green eyes flecked with gold, sharp teeth, sharp nails and a calculating look on her pretty face. The fire in the girl's eyes spoke for itself, and the pain was eclipsed by her answering flare, and she gave the girl a small smile that died almost immediately.

"Yes...rough...boy, that one." She closed her eyes and checked her muscles again. Responding a little better, but she couldn't yet sit up. Mode had gone far beyond what she'd expected him capable of out in the open. What had made her think she could still gauge him? Stupid, stupid. She'd been too long out of the loop, too used to being predator instead of prey. She was getting careless.

She opened them again and met Kat's. Still, there was this girl, and she hadn't attacked her outright yet. Maybe this wouldn't be a total loss.

Kat merely grinned against Wick's obvious assessment, her sharp canines resting against her lower lip as she smirked, eyes playing over this girl who'd managed to find herself as Mode's nemesis. She didn't look like much; slender without the lithe muscles she herself possessed, skin unnaturally pale, not even a worthy opponent. But it was the answering fiery challenge in Wick's eyes that caused Kat to smile even wider as moved away from the girl, seating herself in the corner. From here she was hidden from passing glances, yet could continue to watch the corridor. She didn't particularly feel like being found by Mode.

The girl was still watching her, and Kat giggled to herself, rethinking her comment. Yes, Mode was quite a rough boy, and she didn't mind at all. Fighting, sparring, arguing with him were all part of the game, and she enjoyed the challenge. Asmodeus was another story. The reminding weight of her dagger caused her to rub her leg unconsciously, before she realized what she was doing. Muscles tightening, Kat glanced to Wick and flicked her nails out, examining them with feigned interest as she remained quiet.

Wick forced her eyes to remain bland as she moved them back to Kat's face.

The girl had a knife.

Technically, it was possible that it was a gun, but she considered that exceedingly unlikely. Projectile weapons of any sort were prohibited in all space stations and facilities, and with good reason. Depressurization was a miserable way for hundreds of people to die in the space of a minute or two. The MPs here were equipped with lasers, with the occasional flechette pistol, but no real bullet weapons.

This girl had also just come from the Charybdis institute. There was an even smaller likelihood of her bringing a gun from that location. A knife was silent and effective. A gun would have been...impractical, in such a circumstance, loud and troublesome to acquire ammunition for.

So a gun was unlikely. But she'd seen the outline of what was undoubtedly a holster casing under her uniform material as Kat lazily rubbed at her leg. She watched as Kat spread her fingers, examining her fingernails, but Wick wasn't fooled. The rest of her body had tensed, and Wick's tensed as well. Kat must have seen her looking at the knife. What would she do to keep her quiet?

Best to try to keep it friendly, then.

She studied Kat's face, keeping her expression carefully unreadable. "Maybe he ... should be careful who he's rough with, neh?" Her hoarse voice was getting a little stronger, but speech was becoming more painful.

No use pretending anymore. Her careless, absentminded gesture had drawn undue attention to the sheath buckled around her calf, and Wick had caught the movement, eyeing her leg with obvious recognition. That slip on her part irritated Kat, even as she pretended to play with her fingernails, and she was disturbed from personal beratement when the girl actually spoke to her again.

"Maybe he... should be careful who he's rough with, neh?" The blank expression on Wick's face didn't fool her one bit, and Kat yawned lazily, teeth flashing as she cracked her neck and settled back against the wall again. The subtle reference to her weapon made a little flicker of angry bemusement light in her green-gold eyes, and with a smirk, she purred huskily. "Perhaps he should. Perhaps you should take your own advice." She glanced at Wick's throat pointedly before beginning to hum quietly to herself, eyes scanning the corridor again.

"...maybe."

She offered the girl another little smirk. A strange and completely inappropriate feeling of camaraderie was nudging her, and she shoved it away as she prepared to get up. Fire was always beautiful, always enticing, but not always friendly, and this girl was the embodiment of several of fire's most salient aspects...beautiful, enticing and dangerous. A pity. Under other circumstances, this girl might have proved an interesting partner.

Pressing her hand flat on the floor, she tested the muscle and grimaced. She could push herself up, but whether she would stay up or not wasn't something she could speculate on yet.

Taking slower breaths and trying to shut out the pain in preparation for the effort ahead, she took a moment to study Kat's face. Bruises and the remains of a black eye or two. Mode - or whoever - had not been kind. She wondered what sort of a girl would find someone like Mode to be a viable bedmate. She understood, a little; Jor was sweet and fiery like few others, but he was unquestionably sane. Mode was afflicted with no such restraint.

Braver than I, she thought to herself as she gathered her strength. Braver, but not smarter. You'll bear watching, Kitten, before I can plan around you...but planning is what I do best.

With a hiss of pain, Wick used the wall to push herself up to a shaky standing position, leaning as much of her weight off her ankle and back against the flat surface as she could.

The calculation in Wick's gaze as she stared at her bruises and black eye was duly noted, but Kat was more interested in watching this girl as she braced herself and stood on shaky legs. Even beaten, she was stronger than Kat had initially anticipated; stronger, or with more will against the pan than she had thought. The fire in Wick's eyes, her little smirk, caused her own lips to draw back in an unwilling smile. Someone after her own blood; a fighter, a schemer. Someone to be wary around.

Wick was standing now, leaning her weight against the wall to protect her right ankle. With lazy grace, Kat reached out to grab the girl's pantleg, fingers tightening into the material as she tugged strongly, tumbling her down to the floor once more.

"Where do you think you're going?" Ignoring the winces and hisses of pain, she tilted her head again to eye Wick with bemusement. They each had their own injuries, their own marks of possession, and the corners of her lips twitched playfully as she noticed the other bruises adorning Wick's throat, the bitemarks. Not the only one who liked rough boys. She remembered Ryan's attack when he'd seen the Jayde patch, and wondered where her little boy was... if Asmodeus insisted on being a frightening nuisance, there was always the other to turn to. With a conspiratorial grin, Kat nudged Wick with her foot. "He was here. Why?"

Wick glared at Kat as she righted herself to sitting again. Rising had cost her time, effort and pain, and she didn't appreciate having it wasted for her. "Don't touch me again, flicker," she said coldly, her voice still harsh and raspy as her anger overcame the sluggishness of her vocal cords. Her muscles were in better order now. Even fully healed and rested, she would be no match for this girl in a physical fight, not without an equalizer. She was fast, but so was Kat, and Kat had muscle she didn't.

"He was here when I passed and couldn't bear not to say hello," she said sardonically, ice eyes still on Kat. "But before he noticed me he was busy staring at the wall." She watched Kat's face closely, wantin to see her reaction to this information. She didn't try to get up again, and wouldn't, not until she was sure Kat wouldn't pull her down again.

Staring at the wall?

He had been acting differently lately. Over the course of their years at the Institute, she'd grown used to his mood swings, from quiet Angel to the rough Mode she loved. This new twist she'd discovered was concerning. Kat was painfully reminded of their interaction that morning in the barracks, when he hadn't even spoken to her, staring with abject loathing. He'd been the one to invite himself to spend the night beside her, and she didn't particularly enjoy his lack of response. Remember what you have to do...

Kat shook her head slightly to clear her thoughts, eyeing Wick with careful passivity like a blank mask on her features. His confession of having something wrong with himself echoed in her head, and her promise to him was disturbing. She had sworn not to let him hurt her. Was it possible to keep that? She didn't bother to be discreet this time as she tapped her nails idly against the sheath hidden beneath her uniform pants, and glanced obliquely at the girl with muted malice. "Interesting."

Definitely a knife.

She noted the vicious light that came into Kat's eyes as the girl fell into thought. Jor had been right about one thing. There was a lot to Mode and Kat that didn't fall into the "blissful harmony" category. Maybe she'd gone to a lot of trouble for no reason. Maybe Katera had intended to deal with him without any outside interference...

But there was a hesitancy in the girl's tiger eyes, even now. She wasn't entirely convinced. Something was holding her back. Wick would have given a lot to know what it was, but now was not the time to ask. Now was the time she needed to get to the infirmary and get anti-inflammatory and pain killer injections and hope to avoid Jor long enough for the obvious swelling to go down. She bit her mental lip as she imagined his reaction. He would not approve of her extracurricular activity, her match.

"Very. If there's nothing else, I have elsewhere to be...but it's been interesting, Katera." She tilted her head a little, icy eyes meeting her green-gold gaze, and allowed herself a tiny half-smirk. So much potential, ruined by circumstance. Such a pity.

Kat met Wick's gaze, only halfway hearing her taunting words. Her own eyes unfocused briefly as she remained silent for the moment, thinking, scheming. She knew that unless she had some sort of plan in progress, she wouldn't have afforded herself the danger of being near Mode. What Wick might be scheming was a liability... she loved Mode. He was hers. And the right to his life, if she so chose to take it, belonged in that golden band he wore now.

And Kat did not like her toys stolen.

She pushed herself standing, turning to leave before she paused, hesitating in the alcove entrance. Wick couldn't possibly manage to drag herself all the way to the infirmary, for she was sure that was where the girl was headed, judging by the random winces and hisses of pain she emitted. Rolling her eyes in self-deprication, Kat bit her lip with a pointed tooth and then turned around, towering over Wick as she still sat on the floor. Reaching down, she grabbed the girl's hand, tugging her roughly to her feet before leaning in to purr menacingly. "I saved your boy... I suggest you watch him more carefully. And don't touch Mode."

With that she shoved Wick lightly against the wall, whirling around in a swirl of copper curls and blazing green eyes as she directed her steps toward her barracks. She hadn't the slightest idea where Mode might be, but avoiding him was pointless. Her muscles tensed, careful predatory readiness restored, and with a little smirk Kat palmed into her barracks and let the door slide shut behind her.

Wick watched the girl depart, her red curls bouncing. She wondered briefly if Mode was replacing Dante with Kat like Kat was replacing Jax with Mode...but then she remembered the heat that flickered in the girl's eyes, and immediately discounted it. No one could ever mistake Kat for Dante. Her old Commander didn't have that kind of fire.

She turned away and headed for the infirmary. Hopefully they could give her something immediately, and Jor wouldn't notice. She could just go back to her barracks and stay there for the rest of the night, and tell Jor she'd fallen asleep tomorrow...sleep. Sleep sounded blissful, and she'd only been awake a few hours.

The infirmary was a long way. She pushed on with lagging steps.

A small steady trickle of blood was flowing from the corner of his mouth as Jor sprinted wildly through the corridors, his left eye swollen shut in a painful deja vu twist, exactly the same as the first time he'd tangled with Anjél and her Nathan. With pounding steps he ran, dodging passersby in his desperate search for Wick.

She was limping down the hallway nearby his own barracks.

As he panted hoarsely, forcing lagging muscles to push onward, she caught the sound of his approaching footsteps and turned to to face him with wide eyes. His own good eye narrowed at the sight of her gruesomely bruised throat, and as he didn't even stop as he reached her, just wrapped his arms around her waist and threw her over his shoulder before she could protest. Placing a bloody palm on the pad to his barracks, he entered, still carrying her slung helplessly, and stalked into his room before locking the door behind them.

Donovan almost didn't want to look back, to see her following him. What he was about to do went against a lifetime of conditioning. If he'd understood why he was doing it...that would be something...but he didn't, and his frightening loss of control, his helplessness to prevent what he intended, made him tremble as he stopped in front of the Diamondback Quad entrance and turned around.

She was there, looking nearly as bewildered and lost as he felt.

"I need privacy. I promise I'll do nothing to harm you." He looked at the door and then back to her face, indigo eyes fastened on hers. The violet was scattered with silver shards, and it was an effort not to lose himself in them as he waited for her answer.

She hadn't the slighest idea what was going on.

Donovan had walked silently through the corridors, never looking back to see if she was still following. She could have very well left, gone back to her own barracks or elsewhere, but some compulsion she didn't understand forced her to continue. Her uncertainty was complete as he turned to face her, pausing at the door to Diamondback barracks.

"I need privacy. I promise I'll do nothing to harm you." His twilight eyes held its own bewildered hint, and Dante nodded again, unable to think of anything coherent or rational to say, and decided that silence was best. He palmed open the door, motioning for her to enter, and she stalked inside with hesitant steps as he locked the portal behind them.

Max followed her, half of him paying attention to where they were going, the other half lost in thought. He didn't say much. What, after all, did he honestly have to say? Max didn't really believe in reaching out to others. And yet, he was nothing if not pragmatic - realizing that he knew next to nothing about his new army, Max decided that his guide could help fill him in.

"So," he said, turning to Pallas, "What can you tell me about Tarantula?"

He wanted a report. Pallas loved giving reports on opposing armies. She saw no harm in offering this boy a few pointers to carry to the Tarantula commander. From her impression of Caleb, he didn't seem like the type to take advice from some green fresh off the shuttle, anyway.

"In the six months I've been here, they've improved little. They managed to drag themselves into the top ten and over DiamondBack, but just barely, and they've maintained their position by circumstance alone. Your commander needs to learn to moderate his use of troops. Lightning attack only goes so far if it isn't managed properly."

They arrived at the door with the large Tarantula emblem and she stopped. "This is you. Need anything else, ask your commander or a Quadmate. Your name is on a door in there someplace."

Almost an hour had passed since she'd started him on the tour of the school, and they'd gone just about everywhere; the library, the observatory, the game arena and one of the battlesim rooms. They'd finally found themselves back in the quad hallways, and Swede couldn't stop grinning as her and Rye continued to talk, catching up on the months they'd missed.

"Datz aboot mozt uv dee zchool, von't takeya long to lern your vay aroond diz plaze. Eetz been too loong! Diz keepz me beezee boot I haft mizzed yoo, y'know, aftaire dee fight and vee graduateed I nevaire deed geet to reely zay gootbye." She paused in front of the Griffin Quad barracks, motioning with her head toward the door. "Diz eez my barrackz, voold yoo like to meet zum uv my freendz? Perhapz aftaire vee vill all go geet Dantee and dee udderz and haft loonch..." Swede was interrupted by a whooping laughing that echoed through the corridor, and both her and Rye turned to see Rox bounding forward.

She had a grin plastered over her face, and Swede rolled her eyes, dropping Rye's hand to nudge him with her elbow in his side. That smile usually only meant one thing, and with Rox, her trouble was always spectacular. "Oooh, who's this, Nene? We gotta new fish in our barracks or what? He's a cutiepie..." she eyed him and winked cockily.

"Nope, heez een Pheenix vith Dantee. Ryee, diz eez Rox. Roxee, diz iz Ryee, my oold toon zecoond from Fox Armee, remembaire? I eem juzt geeveeng heem a tour uv dee zchool, he juzt got heer."

Rox gave Swede a glance that both of them knew as meaning playtime. But she still nodded politely at the tall man, moving to place her hand on the palmlock and smile widely at the pair. "I got some... work... to do, but I'll see you two around, neh? Nice meeting you, Rye." He gave her a half-smile and nodded. "Lemme know when you're going to dinner, it's going to take me a while to fix this stuff up. It's about... y'know." Swede giggled and grabbed Rye's hand again to tug him down the corridor. "Coomon, Ryee, vee vill geetcha all zettled eento your noo quad, eh?"

Fix this stuff up? Rye stole a glance behind him as Swede led him off. This was going to be interesting, and yet something inside of him didn't want to know. He smiled down at Swede, happy that so far, everything seemed to be going alright. He held her hand, and glanced around again as they walked towards the Phoenix Quad. What next? He let out a small sigh and decided to just play it out for now.
