Stupid stupid stupid UB. Still...I bet no one is going to bother hacking it, so...yeah.

Screw you, php.

Moving on!

I'm willing to reactivate Ejan for the sake of storytelling, but it might be best if I created a new character and use Ejan only as peripheral order-giving. That will put us all on even footing when it comes to canon-ness. If darling Amy wants to run Riya too, that is totally awesome and I endorse it; it'll be good to have someone who is obviously 'entrenched' in the current state of things already so our nublets can have some guidance.

If you don't want to be an assassin, we have to determine what post you might wish to occupy. Fighting the government takes all kinds! If you're not killing government people you could be a politician yourself, or another private business owner like the de Altamiras. Alternatively, you could be a spy, a snitch, a support person of some kind...or a third party interference, like a thief or a regular person who's been pulled into this unpleasantness through no personal desire.

So. Yeah. Sort that out. I'll be trying to do the same thing for my character. Amy, if you want to start off with Riya, where do you want to start off? We left it kind of abruptly last time.

Oh. And, of course, you can be an IFC-oriented person too.

Oo I like thievery. I would like my main to be a thief and I would like a government spy or double agent or something like that as an alt. (I know, I can't stop talking in WoW terms, so I gave up fighting it.. sigh.) And so. Since it looks like Ejan is our deux ex machina, might it be easiest if you start him up?

Do we have a preferred IM tool to orchestrate certain things, or is this going to be old school? I don't want to embarass myself by overstepping bounds. It drives me nuts to go back and read the fumbling about of some of the characters that did that - though of course not any belonging to you two.

I think that, given our track record, I wouldn't worry too much about orchestrating. If a point needs to be clarified let's just do it in here. At least we'll have everything catalogued.

I'm in the Charlotte airport again on the happy side of my trip, but I think we're about to board. I'll see about composing something tonight or tomorrow morning to get things going. Meanwhile, I'll create a new board so we can have something besides Discussion Thread to post in.

Tee hee.

Here's something I've been thinking about: what if we covered the time starting when Riya hit Earth from IFC? We could go over her selling the plans, hooking up with the Wolves, coming into herself as a mercenary, etc. Then we could explore the beginnings and structure of the Wolves, since she would be learning about them. We could even redo when she first met Ejan (sans Thoth, obviously). What do you think liefje?

We could do that! Here are the issues we must resolve to accommodate that.

Riya is not a people person. She won't have an entourage that could contain other characters, so we'll need to find some other way to get persistent characters to stick around in the story despite not interacting with Riya.

Riya will have contacts and people she's trying to kill..but she does encounter incidental people. Since Pammy's character wants to be a thief then perhaps she and Riya could meet accidentally, as both professions tend to perform their functions in the evening hours. That would be kind of funny...Riya skulking around ready to kill someone and interrupts Pammy's character robbing the joint. *snicker*

I'll find a niche somewhere, guaranteed, but what do you guys think of that general idea?

She'll HAVE to interact with lots of new people, since she's fresh on Earth and has to find someone within the Wolves and negotiate the sale of the plans. This will really be Riya finding her footing and establishing herself with the Wolves, and that's going to involve her actually meeting and speaking to people. So I think it'll be good because we can bring in all manner of folks to be part of this deal.

Let me restate!

We had a tendency in prior iterations to pair our characters up and work with just those two characters with occasional periphery characters. As Riya hasn't got a match at the moment and none of the people she interacts with initially are likely to be wandering around with her at every waking moment (see: Thoth) we'll need to work around that lack of built-in interaction...which I think is all to the good! I'm excited about this plan! I'm proud to be a part of it!

So...where shall we start? Pammy, an idea of your char might be good to have.

I was thinking as a very basic starting model, a sort of cross between the chick played by Catherine Zeta-Jones in Entrapment, and Thomas Crown from the Thomas Crown affair. Cat burglar, comfortably well off via both her thievery and day job (either senior art buyer for a major upscale hotel chain or a commodities trader, I'll figure that out later). Brown eyes, dark brown hair, obviously quite trim, with a light tan skin tone. No specific discernable ethnicity.

What else would be helpful to know? I'm still working on it..

Mmkay, well. We need a starting off point. Ejan didn't interact with Riya at all until she was an established assassin-for-hire that the Wolves had been using for a while in the original draft. I don't mind changing that, but Ejan doesn't have a lot of use for an assassin most of the time, so... now we must make one last decision.

Who starts? I think Ejan would be inappropriate. That said, I don't mind coming up with some other random character that might have more to do with Riya and/or Pammythief. Elsewise, if one of you lovely ladies is itching to start we can do it that way. *points to Wolfy board* Post! Or let me know here.

Names are my favorite! And I'm lame, got busy and couldn't post. I'll dreamscheme tonight and will hopefully have a big old notepad full of awesomeness to post tomorrow. This is hard! I liked writing much better when I could just skip class and eat EasyMac and post all day. Now I have responsibility and its interrupting my creativity!

I'm game! It's familiar enough that it won't be completely like pulling a full story out of thin air, but it does give us plenty of room to restart "the way it should have been." We can bring everyone in and just play around with a few basic interactions (first day of class, battleroom, gym, etc) and see how everyone is doing. Eh?

That's fine with me. It should be noted that Adam is not interested in playing at the moment, so it'll just be us, but I think we can manage that. I think I'll let Nathan's intro stand for now. Are we starting with them as small children or skipping ahead to CS?

Small children, pleez. While there are many parts of CS and beyond that I'd like to edit, I really want to rewrite the beginnings of IFC the way I know it should have been. We've had so long to develop our characters and THANK GOD you can no longer access all the stuff at VBS, because it would make me cry to read what I started over there. Even when I read the earlier posts here, I want to smack myself. Now that I've got a handle on everyone, I would love to start over again and do it right. Or more right than the first time. Right-er.

Anyone with me? I could bring in Kat/Jax together. I have literally been dying to write them. DYING.

I am!

Now, let me make a few general statements to avoid confusion later on down the road, stolen from book one notes and modified.

There are 3 Stage 1 sites: GOBI (China), SIBERIA (Russia), and ANDES (Peru). Of the three, the Gobi Compound is the oldest and most prestigious, but generally admits only Chinese students. Our original students are based in the Siberia site.

Stage 1 lasts 6 years, and new students generally range from 8-10 years old. At all three sites, the only language permitted between the faculty and students is Mandarin. The languages spoken by the faculty away from the students varies between sites, and amongst themselves the students use a slang form of the bastardized Mandarin-based pidgin which has developed within the international army of the [IF]. I'm sure our characters will probably link up along language lines.

All Stage 1 facilities are mostly subterranean. A small bunker above ground serves as access to a much larger installation below.

Education within Stage 1 facilities is generalized, training students in academic issues relating to [IF] service. Though physical conditioning is a part of the curriculum (becoming more involved as students progress), no combat or related training is taught at Stage 1. That doesn't mean they can't indulge in it in their free time.

As a military academy, Stage 1 (and 2) have strict conduct requirements. Because of the sensitive nature of these facilities and the education being provided therein, students are only expelled under the most grievous circumstances, and are sent to the private-sector rehabilitation facility Charybdis. Less serious incidents are met with standard military punishments, often directed at groups.

Students are grouped into three clusters upon arrival. Cluster rosters are shuffled every two years. Clusters are paired with another one year ahead or behind (a "binary" grouping), alternating years (as in, a given cluster will be grouped with one older its first year, one younger its second year, the older once again its third, etc.). That means that even though Kat and Jax came in a year before Sol they still get to spend some time together.
