Emotions Legend
Asmodeus (Sep 20, 2002 12:45 a.m.): Opening the door to see Kat swing on him with a feral grin and her dagger in hand was like stepping into a bad memory, and he stopped where he was and stared at her, too shocked to speak. Since the problem with her father had been solved, there had been a quiet, comfortable peace between them. His life was ordered, and that was something he cherished. His job was unpleasant, but there was a certain pride to be had in doing it well, and having the warm security of her presence to return to when he was done with it was his reward. Her playfulness, her strength, the way she clung to him when she slept...he had come to depend upon them as permanent. He was happy, and he thought she was, too. It appeared he had been mistaken. He swallowed and looked at her knife and then back to her face. Her expression was already altering, guilt replacing the unreasoning fury he'd hoped he'd never see again, but the damage was already done, and he barely heard her explanation as he gathered his wits once more. He grit his teeth together and stepped into the room to allow the door to close, but he didn't come any closer to her; she still had the knife, and the last time he'd seen such a look on her face she'd been interested in using it on him. The rest of the room came into focus - the tumbled chair, the broken computer. He unconsciously gave her a wide berth as he moved towards the desk, set the chair upright and the crouched to carefully lift the fractured terminal and place it back on the desk. Something about straightening what she'd done seemed important to him. She was watching him, and now there was nothing but concern in her tiger eyes, her small hand still wrapped around the dagger but hanging forgotten at her side. If he had been angry, he wasn't any longer, but he couldn't move any closer, and just looked at her with wary sadness.
