Emotions Legend
Kat (Nov 08, 2002 11:33 p.m.): When he set her down and pulled away, Kat knew that he'd seen what she'd done in his absence. You were gone a long time. I had to do something. He tugged at her arm, his fingers digging into her skin, and it hurt. The pain was enough to shake Kat from the last remnants of tired compliance, and she hissed, backing away to curl more securely in her blankets. She shouldn't have touched him, she shouldn't have let him see, but the need to be close to him had made her careless about her indiscretion. It was only a partial truth, however, to say that she was angry at herself for breaking her promise to him. The accusation in his eyes both reprimanded and angered her, and part of her wanted him to be furious. Part of her had been quite eager to displease him, because having him furious over her injuries meant that he cared, and after three days without him, Kat was in desperate need of that reassurance. "Maybe I just felt like it," she said obtusely, trying for snide and only managing to sound bitter. The hurt in her own voice made her angry, but she wasn't sure whom it was directed at, herself or him. Defensiveness twisted their way into her demeanor, and to hide her insecurity behind defiance, Kat looked at her own arms and gave a funny little laugh. "I'm not even bleeding anymore. There isn't anything wrong."
