Remus (Jul 24, 2001 03:31 p.m.): The SO AIT works differently than a standard AIT. For all other AITs, the student continues to live in his assigned Quad and participate in Sim battles as he did as a green. The difference is in the courses the student is required to take -- the student's class schedule will be tailored to the requirements of the student's expected field after graduation. Special Operations works quite differently, however. The SO AIT is housed in its own Scorpion Quad. Each year eight new students are selected from the pool of unassigned students, based upon a multitude of factors including physical prowess, problem-solving skills, and operational initiative. Students are transferred to Scorpion Quad, and are subjected to a rigorous course of study consisting of six classes per day instead of the standard four, no less than three hours of physical training and operational excercises, and the instructor's power to control the students' sleep and meal times completely. The AIT is divided up into four six-month semesters, each corresponding to a level of the student's training. Completion of each semester qualifies the student for successively higher service posts. Failure to complete any level of this program (because it is far more demanding than any other, Command included) results, not in the icing of the student, but rather in his appointment to the post of the highest level he achieved. In the event that said student has not even completed the first level of training, he is reassigned to the Marine AIT.
