Emotions Legend
Denali (Jan 29, 2005 05:31 p.m.): Mal was not terribly surprised or worried when the caravan came to a halt and the group of bandits approached. They would want to inspect the cargo, and request a toll, and it would be paid because it was always paid. It was nothing more than business on the sands, just as it was a business in the cities, and Mal rolled her eyes at Reno as the bandits roamed through the caravan. The one who approached her didn't even bother to do more than glance inside her bags before moving on, and it seemed as if they would be on their way soon when the shouting started. She turned just as everyone else did. One of the bandits was cursing at the ranger in their crew, and the ranger was arguing back with his sword drawn. Mal knew enough Vesari to understand that there were some very bad words being said, all of them directed at the ranger. Cale appeared, and then the bandit leader, and though she couldn't really make out the exact wording, the intent was crystal clear. He said it a moment later. "Caravan! Attack!" Reno was armed and off his horse before Mal had finished drawing her swords, and she cursed and jumped down to land beside him. One of the men rushed at them with a spear, and she deflected his blow away just as Reno stabbed him from the side. She finished him with a thrust to the chest as more bandits came their way, and then the fighting began in earnest. It wasn't a long battle. Mal and Reno managed to take down three men between them, staying close to one another and at the center of the group. The only other people near them were Devona and Raspeth, and they circled around them and their own horses, careful to guard what they could. Further toward the end of the caravan, the last of the bandits were retreating from Cale and the others. When she was certain they were no longer under attack, Mal leaned against Reno, and whistled breathlessly. "One piece?" Reno nodded, and tilted his head back toward the two women. Mal glanced over her shoulder at Raspeth and managed a smile. "You ok?"
