Posted in Earthside. No one's here, so I think it's best if I save my hour and come back later. I'll return after dinner, say 6-7, though as always that's subject to change, due to there's always someone who wants to take my precious IFC time away from me. But hey! I am in a good mood today! I just learned that I got a 1410 on the SAT, so maybe I can even use that as ammunition should I have to argue for more time later on. Anyway, see you later. |

I know! LYRICS! There's this really cool song I learned by heart when I was like five cause my dad liked it a lot and made me listen to it. It's effectively a ballad for this russian soldier during WWII. In honor of Enemy at the Gates, I shall sing it! Stanza by stanza, of course. Maybe if you guys are really sweet to me I'll even send it to one of you, neh? |

Roads to Moscow (sung by Al Stewart, whose slightly funky voice is outweighed by the coolness of his lyrics and the awesomeness of his music) They crossed over the border the hour before dawn Moving in lines through the day Most of our planes were destroyed on the ground Where they lay Waiting for orders we held in the wood Word from the front never came By evening the sound of the gunfire Was miles away Ah, softly we move through the shadows Slip away through the trees Crossing their lines in the mists and fields On our hands and our knees And all that I ever Was able to see The fire in the air glowing red Silhouetting the smoke on the breeze |

All summer they drove us back through the Ukraine Smolyensk and Viyasma soon fell By autumn we stood with our backs to the town of OrelCloser and closer to Moscow they come Riding the wind like a bell General Guderian stands at the crest of the hill Winter brought with her the rains Oceans of mud filled the roads Gluing the tracks of their tanks to the ground While the sky filled with snow And all that I ever Was able to see The fire in the air, glowing red Silhouetting the snow on the breeze |

In the footsteps of Napoleon The shadow figures stagger through the winter Falling back before the gates of Moscow, Standing at the wings like an avengerAnd far away behind their lines the partisans are stirring in the forests Coming unexpectedly upon their outposts Glowing like a promise You'll never know, you'll never know Which way to turn, which way to look You'll never see us... As we're stealing through the blackness of the night You'll never know You'll never hear us... And the evening sings in a voice of amber The dawn is surely coming The morning road leads to Stalingrad and The sky is softly humming (woo! planes!) |

Two broken Tigers on fire in the night Flicker their souls to the wind We wait in the lines for the final Approach to beginIt's been almost four years that I've carried a gun Back home, it will almost be spring The flames of the Tigers are lighting the road to Berlin Ah, quickly we move through the ruins That bow to the ground The old men and children they send out to face us They can't slow us down And all that I ever Was able to see The eyes of the city are opening now, It's the end of the dream... |

I'm coming home, I'm coming home Now you can taste it in the wind The war is over And I listen to the clicking of the train wheels As we roll across the borderAnd now they ask me of the time That I was caught behind their lines And taken prisoner "They only held me for a day - A lucky break," I say They turn and listen closer I'll never know, I'll never know Why I was taken from the line with All the others To board a special train and journey Deep into the heart of Holy Russia And it's cold and damp in the transit camp And the air is still and sullen And the pale sun of October whispers The snow will soon be coming And I wonder when I'll be home again And the morning answers, "Never.." And the evening sighs, and the steely Russian skies go on... ...forever |

Or maybe not. Anywho. The name Solenis came from that story. I even named my poor kitty (who is sick) Rillan after one of the characters from that story. If you think THIS is soap opera tripe...WHEW, baby. That story was just one big long ... soapy....operatic....stomach liner. Maybe some day if I am REALLY BRAVE or REALLY DRUNK and Missa gives permission I'll send you guys a synopsis. GEEZ, isn't this page done yet? |

Ok, here is something cool! The Count of Monte Cristo had just agreed to duel with this guy, Viscount Albert Morcerf. Morcerf just left, and Beauchamp (a friend of Morcerf) came back in to demand that he act honorably and tell him what the hell is going on. This is his response. The language is a little high, and it's different in every edition I read - translation from French, bah - but this is the one Gutenberg has. Always a cool scene. ----- "M. Beauchamp," interposed this strange man, "the Count of Monte Cristo bows to none but the Count of Monte Cristo himself. Say no more, I entreat you. I do what I please, M. Beauchamp, and it is always well done." "Sir," replied the young man, "honest men are not to be paid with such coin. I require honorable guaranties." "I am, sir, a living guaranty," replied Monte Cristo, motionless, but with a threatening look; "we have both blood in our veins which we wish to shed -- that is our mutual guaranty. Tell the viscount so, and that tomorrow, before ten o'clock, I shall see what color his is." ------ Alexandre Dumas ROCKS! |
